[TC8ß25] Problems with network access

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Maybe its real name is: "\\defthw9900tsto.ww002.siemens.net\z0027ucc$\Documents\"?

Last time i did an IQ test (guess it's more than 35 years ago) the result would qualify me to join such a club. But i'm not interested in such elitist clubs.

Nobody here knows the structure of your server. But at least in Windows 7 Profiles there are 2 folder which are shown in Explorer as "My Documents".
The first one is a non traversal directory junction pointing to "c:\Users\USERNAME\Documents".
The second is the directory "c:\Users\USERNAME\Documents" which is only translated as "My Documents" inside Explorer.
That's the reason why petermad pointed to the "virtual folder".

So which parts of the path are you able to access, and which not?

I've tried to reproduce the bug reported by rblock and found one condition where TC freezes:

1. Enter a manually path like:
cd \\<COMPUTERNAME>\c$\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\My Documents\Visual Studio 2010
2. Mouse hover the breadcrumb part "Documents and Settings" or "My Documents"
 TC freezes and must be terminated using the task manger.

Interesting that TC (and Explorer) allows to navigate this odd path until you try to navigate into one of these junctions.
Explorer shows an error message in this case:
[Window Title]
Network Error

[Main Instruction]
Windows cannot access \\<COMPUTERNAME>\c$\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\My Documents

[Content]
You do not have permission to access \\<COMPUTERNAME>\c$\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\My Documents. Contact your network administrator to request access.

For more information about permissions, see Windows Help and Support

[Close]
I've tried this only with my own local administrator share.
Not sure which content of "My Documents" will be shown if <COMPUTERNAME> is a distant machine and not the local machine i sit on.

Hi,

I do not had so much time to examine the problem in detail because I'd to spent about two weeks to reinstall multiple times the Visual Studio and the Addons I use, and the Oracle shitty ODPNET driver.

Know my VS works if U connect to the database before loading a project.

O.k. as far as I could assert TC works fine if I use the connected drive letter H: to access My Documents via the home drive. Just when using the server-share combination it can't access it and shows the error message that the path is not accessible.

Over here at home I do not have such problems. In my environment over here it works fine. But over here I do have access rights to all parts of the path. At work I just have access from z007ucc what is my user name and my home drive on the server. :)

Explaining greetings

Reiner

- I you open the properties of
"\\defthw9900tsto.ww002.siemens.net\z0027ucc$\My documents\"
is there a page named "Link Properties"?

- If yes, what value is shown in the "Target" field?

- Do you have a path named "\\defthw9900tsto.ww002.siemens.net\z0027ucc$\Documents\"?

-
TC works fine if I use the connected drive letter H: to access My Documents via the home drive.
What happens if you use Explorer to do the same?
Does Explorer show two folders named identically "My Docments", or one "My Documents" and one "Eigene Dateien"?
