I use TC for all my file handling, both on my PC, Sony Xperia Z and Nexus 7 and on all other hardware where it's possible (for Linux I use Midnight Commander
With TC I didn't even have to be concerned about the new interface of Windows 8, since I always run my programs from TC anyway.
I love TC and bought it so many years ago I can't even remember!
Truly, I don't think you should be so concerned. In my opinion, people who even consider installing thirdparty file managers are the same people who always root or jailbreak their hardware. Then those restrictions can be removed and TC runs as it always has done.
