Hi Lefteous,
you're one busy moderator. Is'nt there enough work in the german forum to keep you busy these days? ;) (this is ment friendly)
Sheepdog is right, i was making a joke, recognized the smilie in my previous post? My guess is somebody else is stressing your
nerves at this times making you over sensitive. I count Clo among my friends, i suppose he got the joke.

Never mind, i'm satisfied with the way you moderate. Keep it up. :)

Regards, deus-ex.

[mod]It's funny to see Clo giving me hints in the Moderators forum everyday. He is allowed to write there but not to moderate in the English forums. Clo has become my Co-Moderator

Please keep in mind: A joke is way better than an insulting posting but both lead to an offtopic discussion. I don't really know what to do in this cases. I'm not really sure if it's useful to discuss stuff like that in here in this thread. Split this one?
We'll maybe discuss that in the Moderators forum.

Funny, funny !

:) Hello Dirk !
I count Clo among my friends, i suppose he got the joke.
- Absolutely ! And more funny still, since I couln't suppress this double-post, caused by a forum crash, that was quite in the subject : a better hosting to prevent hanging and crashes

 CU later, friendly,
Claude

Sounds good! But 150 Euro/month is a bit much, and that's just the entry level package.
I wrote that this is just an example and there are less expensive offers out there.
... and it's not guaranteed that the 20x more expensive solution would be any better.
What I'm missing is something in between, e.g. a hoster which hosts perhaps 5 medium volume sites for e.g. $50-$100/month. The forum traffic really isn't that high, only about 5 GB/month with 1.5 million hits. It's probably the other users which make the forum slow.
Maybe Strato Business Server is the right one for you.

Strato would be nice, but they neither accept .ch domains, nor clients from outside of Germany. I'm considering a "Dedicated WebPack" from www.hosteurope.de now. It's like a normal shared account, but we would be the only account on that server.

Does anyone here have any experience with hosteurope.de , or knows about any tests? Their network performance seems to be pretty good according to c't 18/2004. They seem to have problems to hide the accounts of other customers on the _same_ server, but this wouldn't affect an account where we have the entire server for ourselves.

well, strato is the last provider i would propose... some time ago, i hosted an onlineshop on a strato server... often host unreachable, more often slow connection... so all in all no statisfying offer... whereas hosteurope is just the other way round, fast servers, (yet) no network problems, nothing. hosteuropes'
data center comes with a 3 Gbit transport connection ( http://hosteurope.de/main.php4?func=statisch&session=7cdd481dce9a78f23c778e80ba02f3ea&f=99 [german])

So if i had to choose... hosteurope would be the right one.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Good pricing, but they either offer dedicated but unmanaged servers, or managed but shared hosting. The special account which we discuss here is a dedicated and managed server! It's like a shared host, but we would have an entire CPU for ourselves.

- Humm, even shared, it's much better than the actual hosting, I think…
They have very powerful servers, multi-CPU certainly; you could have a look in the practice here
:P I've not any share in the OVH's stock ! :D

You can never say this without trying - and currently this host works quite well...

The new version has been released. Have you decided on changing to a managed server?

The forum has been quite stable since then, so I fear that it could only get worse...

So we are all waiting impatiently for the next "internal database update"
