Yes! That would be really nice. Like ReGet does it or Explorer (Oops! Did I praise Explorer? That is so not me! :P )

{DJK}…it would be also nice to move columns (change their order) directly in panels.
- It's that I proposed at the very beginning of the tests as an alternative dialog-setting (and column-design)... but nobody made the effort to understand (at least, to try).

Related to the width of name and extension columns, you can make them very small indeed, but if you make them too small, name & ext become fully visible and superpose on the next column (rather messyly). Isn't this a bug?
See Image: http://img97.exs.cx/img97/4456/tccolumns7hv.png

BTW, I used a custom view with Size right-aligned, otherwise it's even more messy.
Sorry, I was saying here that I used a custom right-aligned Size column...
Well, the normal Size column (in Full view) is also right-aligned.
Still the two behave differently.
I assume this is because the Full view Size column is special (sometimes displaying text) while the custom Size column is a simple numeric column.

Anyway, in Full view you can get the content of columns to overrun on the next columns while in custom view it is working cleanly (besides name + ext columns). See this shot comparing a custom view with Full view:

As I've started to dream I will do the next step.

Next to hide/unhide option, moving columns in panel (changing its order) it would be nice to have an option to lock one or more columns (like eg. in Excel). It could be useful now when you can have many defined columns (sometimes really wide ones). You could lock eg. column with the name of the file and scroll the others. Now when you scroll to see the last columns you don't see what file description you read. :-(

When I select a column that also exists in the predefined views I would like them to look the same in the customized views.

E.g. the attribute string column does not display the compressed attribute in a customized view, but does so in a standard view.

Accept my apologies I must have skip passed it but for sure not on purpose. I actually was planning to suggest
this in the beta forum but what kept me back was the fact that I always thought (still do) it was too difficult to
be implemented on Borland Delphi v2.0! ;)

Oh thanks Clo - you know that is not true, don't you?

:) Hi !
- Someones  have discussed this with me out the boards three months later, but "on the spot" in the concerned thread…
Who has asked for know what "Drag & Drop meant ? Obviously, not sorting in a list, since there is not a list like implemented currently…
- And, yes, that I planned was drag & drop the columns physically on the header, not in the list. This is the Panos' subject.

I guess we all know what that means. Of course drag & drop in the column headers should be possible.
But afaik you never made any suggestions about drag & drop in the custom column dialog, did you?

¤ This was written on the fake-box picture, and I'd not any possibility to explain this in the detail, that proposal as been buried immediatly, like you know very well !!!
And you have too a part of a private chat, much older than this thread, in which I stated clearly what “Arrange by Drag & Drop” means on the picture… So, that has been proposed with the whole box, indeed.
- Please, Christian, don't shave eggs !

sorry if this was asked (and answered) before (quick searching didn't bring anything) but is there a possibility to copy names (to clipboard) with custom columns ?
also would be nice if you could combine column view with catalogmaker-like plugin to catalog files with custom attributes

I think I can remember Christian mentioning in the beta forum that it will be possible in a future version.

This is actually slightly related: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=6014

If you can print the list you are technically very close in coping the details to the clipboard as well! ;)

I also liked your suggestion about the catalogmaker-like plug-ins but isn't that a wish for the individual plug-in authors?

sure (unless Christian is eager to do this) :)
in the meantime i'll see if i can track down catalog maker's author to ask him about it

I have found a way for setting the width of the extension column to 0. If you change it yourself directly in wincmd.ini, it will work. Under [CustomFields], you have the widths for your custom columns views delimited with a comma. The second value is the width of the ext column. Set it to 0, restart TC and the column is gone, or at least not visible. You can't even make it visible again by changing the width with the mouse. Unfortunately, if you configure the custom columns view in TC, the width of the ext column will jump back to 5, and you will have to change it back to 0 again in wincmd.ini.

Of course you can do the same thing with the name column (the first value in ini). But as mentioned here before, the name column and the column after ext column will overlap each other if you make the name column too small - which is not so nice.
