CD Tree colors customization
Moderators: Hacker, petermad, Stefan2, white
I didn’t say anything about background picture, skinning and other excessive and useless features.
I only wanted to point out:
1. system colors in dialogs in UI (for example, selection color in CD tree);
2. system-like icons (default set of icons doesn’t look good);
3. images in menus;
4. taskbar (really useful feature of Frigate).
I am not sure if you know how taskbar is used in Frigate and I will describe it here:
In Frigate every operation can run in background (like in TC). When you hit background button, Frigate dynamically shows a taskbar at the bottom of the main window and minimizes progress dialog to this panel. You can still see operation progress on the taskbar and when you can click operation button on the taskbar, it brings up operation progress dialog and makes it modal (i.e. converts background operation to foreground). I am not sure if my description is good enough, but if you’ll see this in Frigate you will quickly understand how this is useful.
5. Frigate doesn’t open viewer or editor in a separate window, instead it creates a new tab. So, it never creates new icons for any operations on Windows taskbar which greatly saves space for other applications. Every background operation, viewer, editor or even multiple file manager instances can be accessible from the same application window.
6. Frigate can open several instances of file manages, but unlike TC it doesn’t use separate tabs for left and right panes. Every file manager instance is created on its own tab. This is a little bit more convenient than TC interface, because usually left and right panes are related. So, if you want to select desirable left and right panes from multiple views in TC you should either select each pane on the left and on the right, or keep running several instances of TC. In Frigate, you can open several managers and it is just a meter of one click to select desirable view.
7. Console in Frigate is a part of the application. It can be opened as one of tabs and it uses all screen space which is a little bit more convenient than TC plug-in that can be resided either on left or on right panel (you can resize this panel, but it is less convenient).
8. You can select multiple mp3 files in Frigate and it plays them all like a play-list. You may even control volume and playback position. And everything can be done within the same application window!
----------
You may ask me: why you don’t use Frigate in this case if it so powerful.
I will explain: when I first saw Frigate I liked it very much and I purchased a Pro license of this application which is quite expensive ($60). But when I started using this application, I noticed huge number of bugs. Bugs are anywhere: in editor, in file manager, etc...
So, even thought Frigate has the most advanced list of features and very well designed user interface, I realized that it is not usable. I bought TC license because I knew that TC is very stable.
So, please understand me correctly. I am not blaming TC. I am only suggesting a list of features that can improve TC, make it more convenient and user-friendly.
Ho cares today about slow computers? Here, in USA computer prices are incredible low. You can purchase new computer for $300. And such hardware can run everything. Finally, well designed application can have all features as optional plug-ins. If you don’t have powerful hardware, you may always uncheck several items in the list of plug-ins. So all this functionality can be added to the application at no cost! And it is not a meter of CPU speed or resource usage. It is just a meter of time and resources required to make application more powerful. I am not sure if TC author has necessary time. But if he does, than it is would be nice to review application user interface and make it more convenient.

You sourly dont know that TCs Menu is custumizable so THIS would make TC really slow and is therefor not needed...makspyat wrote:3. images in menus;
(thats one of the last thing one needs I think besides backgroundpictures in tc)
Update to XP or newer Windows OS -> Group in Taskbar should do the trick...5. Frigate doesn’t open viewer or editor in a separate window, instead it creates a new tab. Here in Europe a lot of people that have to work everyday or from day to day on slower pcs...Ho cares today about slow computers?
Thats a lot of money - I know people here in Germany that have to live from that for a hole month...You can purchase new computer for $300.
You shouldn't try to judge the world from your point of view

1/ Resizable Dialogs. There are a number of places where text gets truncated when you change the font above pt 8. Size should also be remembered, so it doesn't have to be resized every time.
2/ An Option to use TC's forced Icon's for filelists (the ones stored in TotalCmd.exe), or Windows defaults.
3/ Custom Toolbars. With the same interface used for customizing the main menu. Thus enabling one to easily customize things like the DriveBar.
4/ Moveable Toolbars, instead of fixed position. Bottom/Top, possibly Left/Right. Or even floating. Or even choosing exact placement, so one could choose which toolbar should be on top of others.
5/ Multiple commands for an Icon. Selectablefrom the rightclick menu. An additional unrequired field of "Name". Create a <name>.mnu, which would contain the commands (command, parameters, etc) to execute for that icon from the right click menu.
6/ Tooltip popup for the activeTab displaying its directory, just like the inactive tabs.
7/ A contest for redesigned language.mnu files. Or just accept submissions, using the overall designs for a new "WindowsLike" menu option when installing.
8/ A start menu that is actually a START menu, and that doesn't matter if you move things around in it. Give a separate file.ini for defining UserCommands.
9/ A command to reload the Language.mnu file - if a gui creation interface isn't available. When tweaking the menu it takes 5-7 clicks to update it. Instead of something you could temp assign a hotkey or to a menubar to just reload the current menu.
Well guess thats too many

Works fine here. (Actually, I was the one to request it during the previous beta test.)6/ Tooltip popup for the activeTab displaying its directory, just like the inactive tabs.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Nothing here---

Hi Roman !
• I don't get any tooltip on any tab here under XP-Pro, despite all tooltip-Options be enabled…
- Not too annoying for me, since I don't use the tabs, but weird, though…

"Sho&w filename in file list as tooltip if truncated"
- Maybe a bad joke of XP-Pro…

to makspyat and Frigate, another suggestions too
I'm agree! Maybe the Frigate idea with a sizeable panel inside the current panel is good (Screenshot), perhaps we can configure the BTM to appears that way too5. More lines of FTP log visible

I disagree, I think despite some times left and right panes are related, some times more than one on each side are related. In one hand I do not see anything wrong with several instances, wich are anyway reduced with the happy incoming of multitabs, and on the other hand, the features of the tabs (copy tab to other panel, lock it, SAVE tabs, etc.. right click on any open tab) can do the trick for almost any situation.6.
Suggestion arising:
- An option in the panels to link the two active tabs (hey makspyat maybe this is one of your answers), so when a linked tab is actived the partner is actived too on the other panel. (Currently locked tabs are marked with *, the linked with [1+], [2+], ... to quiclky identify the couples)
I have another more out of topic:
- A TC native tool for customizing menus. I know there is a some tools for that and there are the *.ini

...and finally:
- I support++ the speed, stability and resources economy

Hm, does this mean only the button style or does it include multiple and moveable toolbars, too?...and support for XP-style toolbar buttons.
2nilsandrey
Wow, full support!! This would really be useful.An option in the panels to link the two active tabs..., so when a linked tab is actived the partner is actived too on the other panel.

I don't really see why editors, dos windows and such should be placed on separate panels. It really limits you when you can't quickly switch to them with Alt+Tab - you lose the entire advantage of real Windows multitasking! Therefore I will only show things within TC which really make sense (file lists, trees, quick view).
I will probably not make a competition - the risk is too high that someone tries to sell other people's icons as his own. Since your icons got very good reactions here, I'm considering to licence them. Please contact me by e-mail to discuss this.Did you make any decision about new default icons yet? I'm overdoing my collection at the moment and it will be ready for some competition in a while.

Because this is not very convenient when you have running several applications sharing Windows task bar.
