Use the -x@%L parameter in the Parameters filed of TC's Button Bar (or Start menu). Then you only need to do a Ctrl-B, select all files and start the packing process using the button or the Start menu command. WinRAR will ignore all the selected files and create a RAR with an empty directory structure.
The parameters field could look like this:

Code: Select all

a -r -x@%L test *.*
Of course, tweak it to your needs.

I hope this was what you were looking for.

:) Yes, thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for. It is a good idea and I believe it will work, I'll try it. (I'll try to make the destination folder automatic as the target pannel and maybe a fixed "pack.rar" name).

- Directory Opus v6.0 http://www.gpsoft.com.au/Intro.html
- PowerDesk Pro v5.0 http://www.v-com.com/product/pd_ind.html

But we all know who's the leader! ;)
FYI - I used to have Powerdesk - I think that was a Mijenix product before Mijenix sold out? The product I used was glossy but not robust.

I now have Directory Opus - even glossier, with little "ting" each time it runs - one advantage is that it can see and manipulate the attached PocketPC virtual object and folders. Maybe TC should do this. But twice already, I was alarmed - I had some files on PPC - I dragged them over to a PC folder, nothing seemed to happen, I dragged them again. After a while both folders became blank and I lost all the dragged files. First time I thought I had done something wrong but it is Directory Opus I am sure.

TC is so solid and so reliable from Win16 days up to now - it works solidly on hard disk, on FTP, on Novell Netware via network, on Windows 2000 Server and other Windows over network.

Long ago in Win16 over Novell, Windows Commander would fail and the PC would lose all drive mappings - but it has been reliable ever since - and there has never been file loss.

One big thing which TC has that none of the others I have used have - it defaults to COPY consistently, not MOVE when on same logical drive whilst COPY if different drive. This concept has been reliable, year after year.

Hmm, they must have written a built-in function for that - Microsoft's own ActiveSync folders don't work outside of Explorer. If you don't know this, you can get a PocketPC access plugin from our addons page - it's called WinCE plugin.

Thanks for this, there seem to be more plugins for TC than Microsoft MMC :wink:

This listing is missing another seriously powerful filemanager: Idoswin. But i don't think idoswin is available in English.. It's more similar to Powerdesk. Anyway, I wouldn't compare any filemanager to tcmd if it doesn't support this great [space]-selection thing which made me stop using the mouse and inspired me to stop using the mouse actually system wide.

It is a great news to heard TC is going to support unicode.

It really hope it can work for ZIP too. We can encode the filename as %1234 and then decode it when unzipping. Better than loosing the filename in 8.3 format.

No, unfortunately it cannot work with ZIP, because the ZIP standard doesn't support Unicode at all. RAR would support it, but I haven't investigated yet how this can be handled by unrar.dll or the command line version.

Another pretty good File manager is 2xExplorer
URL: http://www.netez.com/2xExplorer/

Here are the features that I liked:

* Column Customization: You can select the required fields into the file/folder pane and change order

* Paste Special Options: Paste a hard link, Just the Folder Structure (not files)

* Shred: Delete file/folder permanently

* Smart Quick View: Comes right below the tree panel with a delay.

* Good in Built Editor: Check out the Replace Option, Its has the option to search for new line char and other feed chars ***

* Small: Single Exe/X-copy install

But, not close to TC in any manner. But people try the Editor2 which is available separately, it’s real neat.

xplorer2 alpha from same author supports temporary file containers called scrap frames for DOS shells, search results, etc., all editable and saveable for future sessions. That's unique and a feature being asked in TC for a long time now.
Besides that it has clickable paths in title bar, auto resizeable columns incl. undo, optional explorer like browsing tree, optional three(four) pane view incl. quickview panel, saveable folder settings, a scripting wizard for batch files, great search function with duplicate finder marking all duplicate files automatically, a file shredder and other nice features.

A feature from Necromancer's Dos Navigator which I miss is when using the Grey * key when tagging in a folder.

I have TC set to tag only files when using the Grey * key and when I want to tag all folders as well as files, then NDN allowed me to do that with Control and Grey *.

Is there a keyboard workaround to do the same in TC?

"Configuration -> Misc -> Redefine Hotkeys" might work for that ....

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried mapping control-* to cm_SelectAll but it doesn't select folders too, only the files, as a regular * does.
