continue to have access violation errors

Post by *jy307@columbia.edu »

Using beta 7, I continue to have access errors on two different machines, both of which are quite conventional win xp machines and both of which really are quite stable. Neither machine gave me any problem with beta 6 or below. I cannot totally reproduce. Most recent crash happened when I had tc open and set to a directory and then saved email files to that directory. Email program told me that it could not write...check hard drive space, and then when I closed tc7 I got the memory access error. I do have a screen shot.

error is:
Exception EAccessViolation in module TOTALCMD.EXE at 000648E1. Access violation at address 00465B0D. Write address 00ED01B1.

a question: The only thing even slightly unconventional is that I am running X1 - a program that indexes files. Is there any chance of some conflict of TC with this program or perhaps other programs of this type such as the one that Microsoft has available?

Hello, jy307.

As you have read this thread, you know as much about the reason why there are sporadic "crashes on exit" as we do:
We do not really know why it happens. There may be a common source for all these "crashes on exit", there may be more than one reason.

Your indexing service X1 can hardly be the reason why I have started experiencing "crashes on exit" every now an then, too, because there is no X1 on my machines. :)

Some seem to assume that it is related to USB sticks. Yet, today I had the first crash on exit and no USB stick had been connected to the machine all the time.

So we are still hoping that Christian will find out why it happens ...

Kind regards,
Karl

reinstall non-beta version?

Post by *jy307@columbia.edu »

Can I go back from beta 7 to beta 6 or else to the normal release by just installing over what is there, keeping all of my settings, or do I have to uninstall and then redo my settings? or is there a way to save my settings? Thanks...I really need a more stable version.

Hello, jy307.

Downgrading to v7.50pb6 should not be a problem. Just launch the installer and tell it to "update" the current version. All your settings will be preserved.

Even downgrading to T.C. 7.04a should be feasible without loosing any settings.

Kind regards,
Karl

So far, so good. Looks like a winner!
chmod a+x /bin/laden -- Allows anyone the permission to execute /bin/laden

How do I un-overwrite all my data?

I tend to agree and confirm that the "crash on exit" has been fixed in T.C. 7.50 pb8. Cf here, please.
