TC hangs when using right mouse button on drive root

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

The option shows no extension from vmware.

Thanks, confirmed:

VMDiskMenuHandler Class
VMware Virtual Disk File Shell Extensions
C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmdkShellExt.dll
{271DC252-6FE1-4D59-9053-E4CF50AB99DE}

Well, a trace to start on.

Although older version and 32-bit OS, but probably related: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/183973

The workaround is also similar. But I'd like to continue using both TC and the VMWare shell extension at the same time, too, if possible.

I'm not using Vmware on 64-bit Windows, only with 64-bit guests.

Could you please check whether my test program hangs too?

Sure. I've run it several times, and it's behaving exactly as TC:

C:\ -> context menu fine, displayed
F:\somedir -> context menu fine, displayed
F:\ -> application hangs
F:\ after any of the first 2 cases -> context menu fine, displayed

Hi,
I have same problem (reported yesterday on 7.55 beta1 forum) and it's because of vmware.
I renamed vmdkShellExt.dll to vmdkShellExt_.dll and there is no problem!!

I have win7 ultimate 64bit, vmware 7.0.1

I have reported the bug to someone working at vmware who has been a long time TC beta tester, so there is some hope that the problem will get fixed...

I want to report that I've just successfully resolved the problem with TC (version 7.55) freeze/hang after right clicking (showing system context menu). It was not about the drive context menu in my case, but about the context menu of any file or folder. It didn't happen every time but usually my TC hung just after few clicks which made it unusable. My system is Windows 7 Professional English 64-bit. Here is what I did:

I've installed ShellExView, ran it with /wow64 parameter to get the list of 64-bit shell extensions. And aftery many tries finally disabled this extension, which turned out to cause all these problems: "Sony Ericsson File Manager"

So if you have Sony Ericsson cellphone and installed software for it on your PC, be aware that this can be the cause of the context menu problem, not only vmware.

Right Mouse Click

Post by *libor »

I've just found that if I first do right clicking on tree view and then on list view does not hang TC opposite to first right clicking on list view. Using win7 pro 64 and TC7.55a

None Shell extension I have to disable and error is (so far) repeatable.

Did you use the /wow64 parameter with ShellExView? There is no known problem with right clicking in tree view when there are only well-working shell extensions.
