Well, I'm 49 my friend, and will be hitting the big 5-0 at the end of January. It's nice to have some seasoned veterans around here. ;)

lnk example

Post by *bagarja »

Hi,

Here is a concrete example which doesn't work: I installed VobSub 2.23 (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/VobSub_2.23.exe), which is a subtitle plugin. It creates some links like: "rundll32 vobsub.dll,Cutter". This link works in Explorer but not in TC. I tried TC 5.51, maybe I should upgrade?

Make sure the sentence isn't qouted. If you have to qoute it, do it like this: "rundll32" "vobsub.dll,Cutter"
Of all the planets I've been to, this one is my favorite.

someone found a solution for this (get rid of the arrows and don't break up *.lnk-files in total commander)?

@Clo:
They also work on other versions, this is just Microsoft developer slang for "We give a hit (oh that stupid filter...) if you try it on other versions, we haven't tested." ;)

All those Powertoys are unsupported by Microsoft for a reason. They are not bugfree and some of them look like someone has created them after a party with too much alcohol. ;)

Problem here…

:) Hi Jefff !

- Thank you for this delicious explanation :D

- I wondered a bit at that antiquated thread coming up again, but I'm interested in the topic, because I've problems with my XP-Pro to lauch apps. from *.LNK.
• Like I expressed in that French thread, I get an error message.
- In brief : impossible to open a programme or to play i.e. a *.WAV file from its *.LNK in TC, while that works in M$ Explorer, and too in an old 2XExplorer (patched alright in French) that I keep to make the TC updates…
- That works too in my old P1-166 MMX under Win 98SE (there is Tweak UI and a big specific patch for the French W98SE installed…)

Make sure that there is a REG_SZ entry "IsShortcut" in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile, otherwise create an empty one or import that regfile:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile]
"IsShortcut"=""

:) Hi Jeff !

- Thanks, but this doesn't work anymore… :(

- I've added the entry, and when I 2-click a *.lnk in TC, I get the error message still…

- A *.lnk copied —> pasted on the Desktop works fine, same with a 2-click in 2Xexplorer.

Do you have a key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.lnk? If yes, delete it.

If that doesn't work, log in as another user and check if the problem is still there.
