and all the proud frenchies can got to hell :D
Do you know what the Frenchy says you?
You transgress the Forum rules. I don't insult you. You do.
I show my location in my signature. You don't. And a smiley doesn't soften your sentence.
Some news for you soon...

Hi,
I'm a proud but nice French, "dear" JackFoo.

I support your idea, it could be a great favour for people (like me) who don't speak (or very bad:)) English.

2JackFoo and Cie
Say :"Learn english", "Esperanto gnagnagna" etc...is off topic and useless. If you don't agree (or don't care) with his idea, ok, but let the people who try to help the "unlucky" people and go to (not hell, i'm nice remember) another topic to write interesting thing (I hope).

ps: Sorry for my English

Well, if it's not obvious to you yet, this is how all this "rainbows" would look like.
I'ts not obvious to me.
As for me I read only English forums and I won't even move a finger to answer not English post on English forum.
I didn't understand Clo as it's supposed to be an english forum but an multiligual forum. So you nor have to read this neither to answer.
But I guess there will be many other that will do.

It was not my intention to insult anyone, it was said as a joke (hence the smiley). The Frenchmen were mentioned, because on my several trips to France some refused to speak English even though they could (something about national pride). Anyway it doesn't matter, I didn't mean to insult anyone and if I have I appologize.
Clo wrote:Some news for you soon...
Hmm, was that a threat? I mean, it's inet, what can you possibly do?! And your sentence just irritates me, you're over-prideful, not everything you read is an insult nor every insult is intended for you.

P.S. As to my location, it's not business, nor is my sex life, the colour of my car or if I have a car at all.

Cheers.

First of all, English is not the first language in term of popularity. It's far behind Español and Chinese, and others if you take care about the English idiomas (UK English is NOT US English, which is also different from Australian English. 'Tis not me who says this, but people from those countries!)
Second, French has been for centuries the official language used by Diplomacy. As well as the Latin was/is used by the Roman church --Not to ask people to learn it, but to use it as a common reference for translation in many languages.
Note that the first treaty written in English was not clear (as a matter of fact, it's not so precise as French is, though it can be much more concise) and still leads to problems. It is the text about the "creation" of Israel. French is not used as much as English now--probably because it's more oriented to business&money.

The world is divided into 10 categories of people, those who understand binary and those who don't. The same goes for any language --Esperanto,Mayan,Kechua,Latin,etc.

Finally, if you only speak one language and do not want to learn at least another one --then you're an idiot: not an insult, a fact. Not willing to understand people you're talking with will always lead to misunderstanding.

Esperanto was designed to be easy to learn by any people. I bet it would have much more success if some Major or TV Channel was behind and generated revenues...

P.S. Maybe you feel this post is a bit nervous. I've read all the thread and it made me upset by the "suffisance" (arrogance) some of you displayed. I never joke upon someone who doesn't speak my language. Even if I speak his'; this can not be a funny subject. Respect the other first.

Just another thought.
If English is an international language, as recently written, then obviously the English forum should be translated in any language, doesn't it? And shouldn't be limited to english-talking people. Anyone could post there in his/her own language, as the English forum is the international forum
Whereas the German and French forii shouldn't, as noone speaks their language but them.

I do contribute to a music forum since years, and always try to contribute in German + French + English (and Spanish when I got time). It's much more constructive than in only one language.

:D Hello, bonjour!

• La question est que les posts multiples ne sont pas autorisés en principe...

• The issue is that multiples postings are not allowed in the principle...
(offtopic: nice sign. Merits to be translated!)

• All good ideas are opportune, thanks.

 Kind regards, cordialement,

It's true that more people have Chinese or Spanish as their native language, but I still think there are more people that knows English, even if it isn't their native language.

As previous stated, you wont get far on the intenet, work and other places if you dont know English.

If there were only 1 language in the world, there would be no language barrier, no manuals bigger than the bible, people would always understand each other.

I'll bet if you asked all users on this forum, to write down all the languages they know, English would be on the top with most entries.

About English vs. other languages:
http://cnt-ait.info/article.php3?id_article=54
As previous stated, you wont get far on the intenet, work and other places if you dont know English.
Completely false. On the contrary, you'll go to places where you wouldn't have been if you speak/read only English! Try Russian, Dutch, Portuguese, Arabic and you'll discover an Internet much more rich than the small one you know!!!! Never been on .RU, .TW, .ES, .PL, .PT places?
If there were only 1 language in the world(…)
It rings me a bell: the story of Babel. I'm not sure that there would be no language barrier. Just see: within the same city, people who don't have the same culture do not understand themselves as expected. And not to mention the difference in thinking between men, women and children.
I'll bet if you asked all users on this forum, to write down the language they love the most, English would not be on the top.

I agree that english is the most spread language all the world over.

Why not start a poll to see how many members in this forum know english and how many can't read english at all. But instead of putting the poll in polls forum (it's in english!:D), it should be put separately in German forum and French forum to see how many members there know english or not.

If most people in this forum do know english, how about advise all members take english forum as the first choice to post.

As I told you international Esperanto community exists regardless of you point of view on this subject, Jack :). I don't care about it's future, but this is how the things are now.

Yeah, I should admit that's very funny to observe how Frenchmen react on English in France :). Well, it's OK, some nations have an idiosyncrasy on other ones, you can do nothing with it.[/face]

I don't understand one word of it. If I gave you a link to a page with some information you needed, but I was written in danish, where would it get you? Nowhere.
mad wrote:I'll bet if you asked all users on this forum, to write down the language they love the most, English would not be on the top.
The way you changed the question, makes me believe that you agree that English would be the most known language, perhaps not the most loved language, but I don't know.

Yes, that would be nice
