The value IS MENTIONED in wincmd.ini section of the help file. Switch to "search" tab after calling help and enter "PreloadThumbnails" there...

It's strange. Neither can I find it in wincmd.ini section of the help file (I've quoted what Help says in previous post), nor can I serch it out, there's no "PreloadThumbnails" item in "search" tab at all.
Looks like we are using different verions of TC, at least different Help files.
In case there're something wrong, I just dowanded TC6.5 again from official website and checked it out. Nothing new.

Could you please paste here what "your" Help says about "PreloadThumbnails"?

PreloadThumbnails=1
1: Loads thumbnail images already when opening a dir, not only when scrolling to that line.
2: Same as 1, but also in branch view
3: Preload just the next two lines below the visible thumbnails

Usually I am using the german help file but the setting is explained in english help file, too, as you can see. I just checked it with aktual version on website to make sure that there is no "silent" update.

Please delete the "\WINDOWS\Help\TOTALCMD.FTS" file, it contains the database for searching the help files and it will be recreated after the next search. Maybe missing write permission are the reason for this behaviour and the file wasn't updated after the first search run with the new help file.

This is exactly what I quoted in previous post, that is, what Help says.
It doesn't mention value 0, the default value, which I thought is what we were talking about...

Oops, you are right, sorry!
I had not only forgotten that you mentioned values 1-3 on page 1 but the help files are DIFFERENT!

In the german version the entry is like that:
PreloadThumbnails=0 <- !!!
1: Lädt Vorschaubilder schon beim Öffnen des Verzeichnisses, nicht erst beim Blättern an diese Stelle
2: Wie 1, aber auch im Modus "Zweigansicht"
3: Nur die nächsten 2 nicht sichtbaren Zeilen im Voraus laden

So, now I of course understand why you thought that PreloadThumbnails=1 is the default entry.

If even the help files are translated differently a complete list in wincmd.ini sounds even more desperately needed...
