TC looks in Win7 like WC in Win95.
And it is good that this tool is still usable and respects traditions.

I am perfectly happy with the present looks of Total Commander. I always prefer functionality over GUI bloat or 'modern looks'.

'Modern' comes and goes, and people always think of it differently, depending on some (usually) forced mainstream developments (e.g. Windows 7 looks or imitating Apple Mac GUIs is considered to be 'normal' or 'trendy' now, although I do not like them). Total Commander has been a solid tool for me for about 10 years and I think it is somewhat independent of time. Therefore I do not see any need for GUI modernisation. Functionality improvements are a different thing though.

1. There is something you to know.
GUI is VERY related functionality. Even more - GUI is functionality.
Otherwise you would use command line - it is very independent tool! :D

2. I 100% sure people that don't like "modern" GUI of TC uses on their Windows XP themes or uses on their Windows Vista/7 Aero interface.
And they don't use gray simplified and depressive Win9x-2k interface.
I wonder - why?

I do not want to change GUI absolutely.
But I think science achieved good results in GUI development and optimization for 8 (!!!) years.

Thats not True - try speedcommander - I bet you like its design :D
I ie prefer the ability only TC offers to create my complete own menu file for tc:

Try to do that with any other filemanager out there

Yes, you can customize many things. But you can't keep TC in one window, each file operation makes you decide what type of copy/move window you will use, one of them will make you wait until operation is completed (or you can send it to background each time), you cannot check transfer speed history to figure out why it takes so many time to transfer 20 GB via LAN, you cannot keep search results when you move back to manager, you cannot start more than one operation in the queue, etc. Know what I mean? Why this inconvenience has been carefully moved from version to version? Why just not to make some little big changes in interface architecture?

P.S. Please read updated 1st post in this topic.

the best would be to get a progress bar docked under TC / show like the status / functionkeys bar.
there could be name progress / % / rest infos (configurable) shown inside the bar.

or at least somewhere else inside, attached to TC so i dont need to search the floating window everywhere while copying/unpacking etc.

a suggestion i made 2009..

At least we have tried. Nevertheless I can understand the reasons the TC remains the same.

Good thing we have the choice of where to watch the real research work (some guys from some known company). And it looks like they're doing well. But only time will tell...

I'll just say what everyone thinks, and that is that there will always be different opinions on what an interface should look and feel like. I for example think that most interfaces without keyboard and this look: http://lookpic.com/c1/i2/1236/sbtP5Xwr.png is bloated and has poor use of work space. But that is just me, and I know that many would not like that look and interface.

What I do agree on is that background transfer/operation window is sleek to an extent that is uninformative. I would really like to have a queue system as in FileZilla or the like with a scrollable (max heightened) panel beneath and within the TotalCommander window. Be that unpacking, copying, and moving files. That would be a great enhancement in my book.

/TT

Edit: Don't know if It's just me or so but the link is not 403 Forbidden. Try copy it and paste in new tab and it should work.
Total Commander and Gaming. Only reasons left to use Windows.

Everyday moving BDRips to my USB HDD or notebook via LAN.
