I don't remember clicking _any_ numbers at all but only the button to resume the transfer.

And TBH, I could not click both the file count and the MB remaining, at the same time, but they both turned negative.

al20878,
"THE" number? What number that would be?
The number where there is now a minus sign. Try clicking it again (the number with the minus sign).
When double Q appears in the middle of a link, how THAT would be dangerous?
It usually led to some scammer's double Q messenger site (I think each double Q messenger user gets a simple double Q site).
I don't remember clicking _any_ numbers at all but only the button to resume the transfer.
You don't need to remember, but it seems to have happened anyways.
I could not click both the file count and the MB remaining, at the same time, but they both turned negative
When one is clicked, both turn to counting "remaining" instead of counting "already completed".

@Hacker,

Got it, thanks! It's a very nerdy and obscure feature.

How about instead of showing this:

-4,196 / 8,873 -30,697.7 M / 63,370.0 M

change it to show something like this:

4,196 / 8,873 Remaining 30,697.7 M / 63,370.0 M

with the word "Remaining" in the middle, the negative sign dropped (after all, it's absurd -- people don't count in negative).

And, conversely, in the default view, instead of just the two fractions with nothing in between them, show

4,677 / 8,873 Completed 32,672.3 M / 63,370.0 M

So clicking on "the number" would convey to the user what numbers they are actually looking at.

As for the Q\Q -- obviously Google is unaware of that, because they do generate links with that double letter quite fearlessly :-)

Well, sometimes they do, like for rocket launches (t-10, 9, 8...)

Nobody says "minus 10", they say "Tee minus 10", and for the count down nobody says "minus 9", "minus 8", etc, but just
"9", "8", ... "ignition!", "lift off!" How about that, Roman?

So it's not Rocket Science.

No, it's just any media player.

al20878,
It's not about what one says, but about what is written. If you wish, you can say "on the target side, there is already a copy of all the files minus 10, minus 9, minus 8... done." ;)

Like I said, it's nerdy and awkward that files are counting in negative.

Besides, since when a copy operation was an entertainment (media player) or a rocket launch, both of which, BTW, display _time_ countdown, not countable _objects_, which files are.

Switching between something like these would be much more user-friendly (and it does not cost anything to implement)

4,677 / 8,873 Completed 32,672.3 M / 63,370.0 M
4,196 / 8,873 Remaining 30,697.7 M / 63,370.0 M

instead of showing negative numbers... And I'm not insisting on exactly this execution but something that _indicates_ what someone unaware of this thread, is looking at...

So maybe
would please consider this as a suggestion for a UX/UI improvement

Not exactly - the string would need to be translated into all supported languages and the dialog would have to be adjusted for the largest text length ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Both media player and file copier display exactly what is expected - counter for media playing or file copying.

Of course it does, the -counter for file copying

We agree to disagree. I'm done posting to this thread. All the best!

You have misqouted my words. I can only use Hanlon's razor to guess why you did it.

Just for clarifying - both media player and file copier display the counter in the same manner and it's nothing nerdy for common users of any media player.

That's all.

I am not, it's true. All text in TC is translated and the dialogs and windows are designed in such a way that the text is clearly visible for all languages.

[Tc 11.02] Negative file count

Post by *mrp »

While copying files in the background, file-count is negative. Even in foreground.
Image: https://i.ibb.co/RDgB3Fz/tc-1102-copy-background.png

I'd expect it to be as "before": positive! :-)
Also, the amount of copied bytes, goes from negative-something to zero. Instead of from zero to many.
