• Like Peter, Paul and I had some difficulties to find out that setting…
- I guess it's worth a larger¦more explicit caption and button, even located elsewhere in that dialogue,
and also a note in the Help (where a GUI-Options page is obviously missing…)
1. Use the Free version of UV - I cannot reproduce this with the Pro version.
2. Enable Irfanview (v. 4.00).
3. Enable "Irfanview has higher priority than internal library".
4. Exit UV.
5. Start UV again and open a .cur or an .ani file.
6. Press 4 fast several times (or hold the key pressed for a while) - An error box pops up saying: "Unknown image format" - and the image is not shown any more.
Another thing:
If I manually change the viewer.ini setting:
IViewExeName=C:\Programmer\IrfanView\i_view32.exe
to
IViewExeName=%PROGRAMFILES%\IrfanView\i_view32.exe
...then I can't see any images. It would be nice with support for env. vars in the path.

It seems not to happen if the filename is passed from TC to UV, but only when the file is opened via either the "File" -> "Open..." or "Open recent" menu entries.
It happens both when using IrfanView and XnView. So far I have been able to make it happen with .cur, .ani and .clp files, but I guess I can make it happen with all files that are not supported by the internal viewer.
Does IView stay in memory ater that (in Task Manager)?
No.
Also - neither .ani files nor animated .gif files are animated when shown by IrfanView or XnView in UV. Animated gifs are perfectly animated when using the internal library though.

• I can confirm that. Moreover, the BG transparency is not rendered for animated GIFs using XnView
(it is in XnView directly), all BGs are black.
- Same with *.ani (but it's the same in XnView, a “bug-feature” not fixed for ages…)
• The animation works using the internal library, but same mess for the transparency…
So much fuss for nothing. While Lister needs something like this, UV surely can hadle images by itself. And by looking at the awfull implementation I can only say: let's keep it simple.

FAQ update:
Q: When images are get from IrfanView/XnView, the background is black and animation doesn't work...
A: The IrfanView/XnView intefrace is sending a simple bitmap to the application,
and the animation isn't supported for simple bitmaps.
So to view GIFs with animation you have to use the internal image library (delete 'gif' extension from
IrfanView extensions list). Also note that you can check the option "Advanced -- Show images trsnaparency"
and bitmaps will be shown with transparency (not correctly in all cases though).

Don't know where to put IrfanView option in dialog. In Advanced tab maybe? But it has extensions list which is suitable for General tab
