Launchy is an index based application starter like Colibri.

Unlike alias based starters like TypeAndRun, this one scans directories and extensions of your choice and finds them by typing characters. But, not only "real" matches but also partial ones:
So, typing ntp will also find Notepad.

Hint: There is no systray menu. Predefined shortcut is Alt+Space!

hej icfu.. this is great post.

very cool and useful applications.
thank you.

btw, don't you know how to set into colibry what paths to scan and what to exclude ? Or even possible config items (on TAB)

I have tried Colibri only once some months ago, way too resource consuming so I got rid of it. Can't help you here.

Wow, I like this princip so [f]uckin much....

Yes it is consuming, and I tried Luanchy which behaves better. But I see so many things that can be improved that I am thinking of creating one such application myself that will be created in pure API so to be as fast and small as posible. I am seriously thinking about that because what I have seen is perfect launcher for us keyborders....

For instance I would like to have separate lists.

<application>
i <internet shortcut>
d <documents>
....

i ahk ->go to www.autohotkey.com
d lic -> start licence.doc
a fav ->start tc favmenu.ahk

Eatch section should have separate folders to scan (with exclusions), separate setting for entire application, like skin and possition (ok, skin may stay the same, probably for performance reasons).

Also, eatch menu should have custom configuration items, something Colibry has hard-coded. Jscript or VBScript or AutoHotKey script would do. Colibry in latest version do that on TAB: when you type colibry <TAB> it will display config bellow. This is very cool, but it is hardcoded config not configurable.

Majkinetor,

i'd like to quote Scott Hanselmann from his blog this week:
A while back, after I got my Mac, I (mentally) declared QuickSilver to be the greatest program launcher ever. Anyone who gets QuickSilver done right on Windows, they will have a license to print money.
A lot of people tried to develop something like quicksilver, i don't know it exactly, but this made me curious..
So if you'd like to make some money :)

[F]uck the money.
I need the launcher, now !

I heard that Mac launcher is the best and when I talked to my friends about Colibry and Launchy they told me that is available on Mac, 10x better then anything else.

I must check what that quicksilver can do....
Now I am definitely on to do something.....

What no Find and Run Robot?Its pretty good and has that great donationcoder feature of including other similar programs in the documentation.Also supports aliases and is the best QuickSilver windows substitute I know of

Find and Run Robot doesn't use an index, so its performance is a pain in the ass unfortunately. Partial matching is missing too till now.

When creating an app starter, speed should be number one priority and this is exactly what I am missing with many DonationCoder apps. Although I like them, I find myself using something more effective (like TypeAndRun with autocompletion) at the end of the day.

You probably found out by now, but just in case: there's lots of documentation and feature-descriptions available on this site.

Am I allowed to suggest that the moderators maybe do new users the favor of linking the very very first topic in this thread to the Wiki collection page.

Exactly.

Such app MUST be written in pure API without overhead of any nature (classes, higher level language constructs etc...)

I have seen QuickSilver documentation and I must say I am amazed. I just want to try that myself, on PC, probably with virtual machine if nothing else available. Is anybody informed about running MAC OS X at PC ? I would like to start building this thing, but I first want to learn somehting from QS expperience.

I know... I talk every day with author but no luck to force him do it with me. Chinese part of developing (FlyFlancy) didn't reply. Werid173, itself, wants to do it, but has some problems in life and can't do it right now. I wanted to do it on my own, but I can't compile Dm2 on Visual Studio 2003, only on VS6 witch I don't want to use. Since weird173 was generaly very interested to update DM2, I suggested that he should at lest see what is wrong with compilation in new VS and fix that, and then I can do the work. The idea was DM2 to become plugin engine without functionality on its own, like Miranda, with some ideas like CLCL (separate exe for config and small, fast, non-GU engine).

I really don't know what kind of error VS2003 reports. Strangly enough, I can start the app in Debug mode, but when I switch to release mode, some stupid error is isued. The mentioned addons on Wiki (created by Icfu) can be done very fast, acctualy, I already have some things done in dlls I used for some other applications.

So, if anybody wants to try to compile this thing in VS2003 or even newer, it would be good to share its knowledge. Without that, we must wait for Weird173 to do it, (and I can not say when)

In the mean time, I am downloading MAC OSx to see this QuickSilver.

Nothing strange. Someone has probably forgotten to initialize something.

About your English again :lol: :
You seem to use "its" instead of "his", or "her" (you do this always). It may sound offensive.
