The new separate tree panel is very useful, thanks!
Is it still necessary to show a tree in (one of) the main panel(s)? I think the "Show" > "Tree" command now is not necessary anymore, but is confusing for new users.

People shouldn't underestimate the importance of a clean user interface.


BTW: TC 7 is TC 7. For full compatibility with TC 6.55, use TC 6.55.

You should know that compatibility for Chris is allways
important - do you know that all files are backwards compatible as far as u can go ?

I think it's not needed anymore! It's new millenium, and new interfaces!

I don't know why would anyone want to do it anymore but in order to emulate explorer's look of a "single window - tree panel - files panel", you need this. Personally, i don't use it.

With Ctrl-F8 and the new separate trees, you have three meaningful working scenarios:

1. one tree, one panel
2. one tree, two panels
3. two trees, two panels

This can also be achieved by moving the separator between the main panels to the very left or to the very right side.

It was not actually a feature request, but a serious question. I just couldn't imagine what the benefit is. All three working scenarios that you mentioned above can be done without the old Ctrl-F8 tree.

The more features TC gets, the more it becomes important that the user interface is as clean and simple as possible.

Fiddling with separators is what I hate most in TC, really. Often I wished that I had an 80 inch screen or TC had a working column and panel autoadjustment.

I will use Ctrl-F8 if I need a temporary switch and I will use the new trees if I need them for a longer time.

You can be sure that compared to Directory Opus, TC tree configuration is still very basic. In the future I'd like to see even more enhancements:
1. Vertical drive bars
2. One or two tree(s) in the middle of both panels
3. One tree on the outer left, one tree on the outer right (optionally mirrored)
4. Trees on top of panels
...

Anyway, the present features are the most important, that's fine and a very good start.

True, that's the nice thing about optional features: You can remove them if you don't like/need them.

I have no plans to remove the tree view inside the normal panels. For me, backwards compatibility is THE most important feature of a new version, to make transition as smooth as possible. It's never good to remove any existing features. I have experienced this myself in some programs, and I miss some of these optimized-out features even today after many years...

I was not meaning optional features, but a clean user interface, that is shown by default to the (new) user.
