[REQ] Directory Sync => Call Internal Compare Tool

Post by *icfu »

When CompareTool= is set in wincmd.ini, it's not possible anymore to call the internal File Compare inside Directory Sync.

I propose to remap the default Ctrl-F3 to cm_IntCompareFilesByContent and to add another shortcut, maybe Ctrl-Shift-F3, for calling the external utility when available by cm_CompareFilesByContent.

Maybe it can also be added to right click menu, but the shortcut is most important.

Please dont use CTRL+F3 for doing anything else than sorting :!:

CTRL+F3/F4.... is as Default for sorting Colums.

But Hotkeys for calling the Compares would be nice.
Hoecker sie sind raus!

You didn't catch the point. We're talking about the Sync Dirs dialog, Ctrl+F3 is the hotkey for comparing the files there.

Of course it does! But, it cannot be true that the CompareTool setting causes such strange limitations, right? You agree, I am sure. ;)

@Flint: Thanks for info, let's hope that something will change in the public beta test regarding this.

OK, a hotkey can be added quite easily. But why use the internal compare when you already have an external one?

Because loading external tool may be slow. Because external tool may compare in different way (e.g. ignore white-spaces, empty lines, source code comments etc). Internal TC compare tool is ideal for quick comparison. :)

That would be great, thanks!
And what about the additional proposal about the same feature - to call internal comparison also with e.g. Alt+double-click?

You have implemented cm_IntCompareFilesByContent for a reason, haven't you? :?

I think that the internal compare has its specific strenghts and I prefer it, like Flint, for quick viewing and now even for quick editing. No need to dump it when an external utility is configured.

For me the CompareTool setting is not something like "will be used instead" but "can be used additionally". I would never expect to have internal functionality replaced with external tools by default.

Support too.
I use external compare tool in certain circumstances but use internal tool more, it's faster.

BTW, icfu is not an alpha tester? I cannot believe it.:)
