Annoying mouse wheel

Post by *CoMiKe »

I must excuse before you read this, because it could be an almost stupid question, but anyway... ;-)

Well, i think this is no a TC problem, but Mouse Driver (or Windows) problem, not sure...

When you have selected a panel (suppose it's left panel) and you scroll the other panel (right, in the case) with your mouse wheel, both panels scrolls, losing the clue of what you're doing that moment.

The behavior expected, in my case, will be, sorted by preference:

1) Scroll the not selected panel, and not the selected panel.

2) If it's not possible, don't scroll neither left nor right. This way, at least, i don´t lose the visual reference of the selected panel.

Any chance to fix this?

Here only the selected panel scrolls, W2K, Microsoft Mouse, no special drivers as far as I can tell.

Well, I forgot to tell OS and mouse.

I'm using Win98SE, Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer, and it happens both with mouse utility running and not running.

I am having the same problem with Win98SE, but curiously in Win 200 Pro it does not happen.
But knowing Microsoft, I think it is a Windows issue.

In my case it also works like CoMiKe described:
If I scroll with cursor over selected panel, it's OK - only selected one is scrolling. But if I move cursor over unselected panel, both panels are scrolling. Doesn't bother me though, because I always have cursor over selected panel, when scrolling (+ I usualy use keyboard PgUp and PgDown anyway :) ).

Yes, it's a mouse driver problem. Total Commander itself always scrolls the window under the cursor, while some mouse drivers scroll the currently active window - so when the window under the cursor is the inactive panel, both may scroll. Some mouse drivers allow to define which window should be scrolled.

Thanks again for the responses.

Well, I will test another utilities apart from the Microsoft Intellipoint Software, because I realize all wheel mouses work the same way, so other utilities may work as well.

Another detail, my mouse is connected to USB port. Where is yours plugged? I think it must not affect the way it acts...

Just BTW: W98SE, A4Tech mouse, in normal mode scrolls the panel underneath, in IntelliMouse compatible mode scrolls both active window and the one underneath.

HTH somehow

Some applications such as Mozilla 1.6 running on Windows XP SP1 with the standard mouse driver really do scroll the window under the mouse pointer while Total Commander 6.01 scrolls the active window. Scrolling the window under the cursor is a convenient little feature. The more I use it the more I miss it in TC and I think it would be worth finding a solution or a workaround, at least for the standard mouse driver.

On this occasion I would like to remind another little inconvenience of TC: As in many other applications (including SpeedCommander) a doubleclick on the windows splitter should move the splitter to its default position (50/50 in case of TC).

It seems to me that both "problems" have a similar resistance and require some special tricks.

To Clo: I know the other thread, but this one was created first, has a better title and is more to the point.

A doubleclick on the splitter for 50% would be fine. In case you don't know it here is s tip: You can already use the 50/50 entry in right click menu of the splitter.
