It would be very nice - possibility choose font charsets for both sides individually - I often translate texts in may native language Latvian - who uses Baltic charset, from Russian - who uses different (!) charset - Cyrillic. If I chose my charset - it is impossible to read Russian, if I choose Cyrillic - difficult to read in Latvian.

Try to use Unicode.
But I support the request for separate settings in Compare by content panels (including also Unicode/non-Unicode).

I assume "edit mode in compare files" was not created having your way of using it in mind. Anyway, it does not seem so difficult to implement (of course Christian knows better) so it might be a nice idea. After all, it would be an (unintended) enhancement to TC which might help others too. I have done some translations myself and i can say it would be helpful. It might be better to have a switch to turn it on/off in the INI though, because the majority of the users would not need this and it might be confusing. If the switch is off, the user would see only one font selection option for both panels, otherwise it would see two, one for each panel.

Unfortunately this would cause all kinds of problems, e.g. when a user uses the buttons to copy text from one panel to the other.

Why not use UTF-8 or UTF-16 for at least ONE of the two files? You can use notepad to save a file as UTF-8. Then set the font script to the language of the other panel.
