Switching to Long/Short file names

0. Enable Show current directory option (if disabled)

1. Switch to e.g. short names, then go to X:\Program Files\Common Files.
Current directory bar now shows x:\progra~1\common~1 and filenames in file panels are now in 8.3 format.

2. Switch to long names.
File names in the file panels are now long while current directory bar still shows short dir name.

3. Go to the parent dir and then back to [Common Files].
Current dir bar now shows x:\progra~1\common files

Is it by design or incorrect behaviour?

It has been like that for ages (previous TC versions too).

IMHO it should be fixed.

Confirmed too.
Even folder tabs still remain in last previous case not only directory title path.
I think is a very small omission.

But is solved by two cycling up-down directory jump in each case.

This is by design. Only the directory contents are re-read when you re-enable long names.
