[req] Thumbnails in Multi Rename Tool to sort pictures easy

Post by *Samuel »

I often have to sort pictures in tcmd.

If I do it in tcmd today, I activate the thumbnails for both panels and create a target directory on the other panel. Then i search the first Pics move them to target dir and Multi rename them to "Pic001" - "Pic007". After it I move the next Pics and Multi rename them to "Pic008" - "Pic011".

It would be very nice to have Thumbnails in Multi rename tool. I could just start it for all files and sort them by dragging the files to the right position.

Here are 3 suggestions about the way of displaying the Thumbnails:
1. Only one Thumbnail to the right of the file list. The currently selected file is shown there.
2. Thumbnails left of every file in the list.
3. Thumbnails like in normal thumbnail view.

Of course it should be optional.

Could you improve MRT so that it would be possible to open the selected file. This would help a little.

[OT] Do you know any other Tool, or faster way to sort files as described?

what is the sort criteria? Lots of content plugins might help you with sorting or filtering.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Sorry to say that it has nothing to do with the name or some criteria.
Its just the content of the image.

I have for example pictures from 2 or 3 cameras and want to bring the pictures in the right order. (Time) But I also tried to use times of pictures, but this made also problems. And an absolute correct time-line is not always what I want.

Also some Timestamps could be destroyed after editing the pictures with some programs.

So its only the image of the picture that gives me an idea of the position.

Two image-viewers that can do exactly what you want:

ACDsee (40$) and Faststone Image Viewer (freeware).

Just drag & drop the images in any random order and select "batch-rename" to save them with a new counter.

If you dont mind copying picture files, I found a workaround:
Start the File Redirector plugin and set the sort to unsorted (Ctrl-F7)
Copy the picture files in the desired order you want them to, and then rename them in File Redirector according to you needs. Then you can copy the files to a new folder with the new names.
Funny huh?

Thank you ZoSTeR.
Your Solution with Faststone works very well.

So I didn't tried your solution SanskritFritz. It sounded so... strange :-)
But I am sure it works ;-)

I thank you both for your suggestions!

A TC intern solution would be great, but I am satisfied by now. Thanks for quick answers.
