Problems with New File right-click menu

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Problems with New File right-click menu

Post by *pingel »

When I right-click on a folder in TotalCommander 7 RC3 to create a new file, the menu that shows the option of what file types I can create is full of a lot of WinZip options.
First I thought it was a problem with WinZip 11.1, but when I right-click on a folder from Windows Explorer, the menu is quite corect, with only one instance of WinZip Files.

Unfortunately I don't have a server to store an image on. If you need to see the problem, please give me an e-mail and I will gladly send it.

This is basically what it looks like:

I do not get this problem with Winzip 11.1, I have just tried it with a fresh Winzip installation on a system which never had Winzip on it.

Apparently some older Winzip version had a bug which created too many "ShellNew" entries in the registry...

Btw, the next RC of TC7 will show in the File-New menu what extensions are responsible for the ShellNew entries, e.g.
WinZip File (.zip)
WinZip File (.tar)
WinZip File (.gz)

etc.

Can you tell me what extensions are shown now behind the various Winzip entries? And do they work?

Update for R4

Post by *pingel »

RC4 now shows a lot of extension associated with WinZip

But if I click new in Explorer I only see one winZip entry:

I am using WinZip 11.0 (7313)

Hope that helps.

This isn't actually a bug in Total Commander then. These items are really all there, the Explorer just doesn't show them because they all have the same names! So I guess that when you choose this command in Explorer, you will get a random file type supported by Winzip...

So the best thing to do is start regedit and get rid of all these ShellNew registry entries. Just keep the ones you need, e.g. just for zip files. I assume that the Winzip people found the error and fixed it in the meantime...

Not a TC problem - should be moved into "Behaviour which will not be changed".
Flint's Homepage: Full TC Russification Package, VirtualDisk, NTFS Links, NoClose Replacer, and other stuff!

Using TC 10.52 / Win10 x64
