[Suggestion] Better Options dialog.

I think that TC's Options widow could be improved. There could be options tree with dynamic search possibility instead of existing list solution.
Something Eclipse / Azureus like could be very nice (and usefull). In that scenario window can hold every possible option (even hidden ones) and easily be extended in the future.
What do you think about it?

I think that will be hard for Ghisler to implement.

I think that adding there things that currently can be set only by direct ini edition should have higher priority.

@m^2
I agree but what about tree with nodes (without search)?

Tree view and search is highly welcome.

lol, dude!
Don't you think that the whole TC also was not so easy to implement? But he handles it.

Hello !
Total Commander already has very good option window!!!
• I think so, rather…
• I much prefer the single list than a tree-like. We've a kind of tree now in XnView,
and it's a pain in the neck to find the appropriate page…
- There are some pages almost empty, while some others need tabs in addition to call subsidiary boxes…
…which have no entries in the tree-list ! That doesn't prevent that some pages are still full to bursting !
• Suppressing the tabs in the options of TC had been a good thing, I think.
So, probably add some ones again is unwanted.
- Moreover, tabs are Win-drawn, so the new 120 DPI feature can't be applied here when needed…
- As long as there is room enough in the list to add items -one title = one page, no tabs -
the list remains handier and simpler.
- Supposing that the room at height gets missing, it's not a big deal to enlarge a bit all boxes
(that should be useful already for some ones)…
• Indeed, it's still possible to improve the look of the list, this had been discussed elsewhere (ß-forum).
- Unfortunately, despite good proposals (among which
one of mine), nothing noticeable has been changed (yet…).

Check Azureus or Eclipse (as mentioned eralier) or similar successful software for
search for an option feature. You will love the ease of finding option among thousands of it.

The exclamation marks don't help, sorry.

As you can see, after executing the filter only relevant nodes are still displayed. The red border is painted by the file manager, it hasn't been inserted by me. This is what I would call "very good".

In MAC OS X Leopard there is a new function in the help system. The user will not just get search results in the help file but also in the whole user interface. So a search result can be a menu item or something in a dialog. Clicking on a search result item will jump directly to the interface element.
This can be added to any application so it works consistent for all applications.

Yeh that Dopus thing works a treat! That tool has so many options it's crazy. But the search function makes them all easily accessible.
