F7 button label: ( 'NewFolder' / 'New directory' )

Post by *roentgen »

In the internal language file the F7 button is labeled 'F7 NewFolder'. The F7 dialog says 'New directory'.

I vote for 'New directory' in both places.

I think it should be "New directory:" (with a colon) in the dialog.

"New directory(s):"
can be better.
By this, also it will suggest more than one directory can be made, with "|" separator.

Spelling, plz…

:) Hello !

• Right spelling is “directories" when plural… ;)

- But it's a good idea, so it could be “New director¦y¦ies” or so.
- More complicated in French, since the adjective takes the number and gender…

- For the button (original topic), I guess that "Directory" is a bit long, worse in French (Répertoire),
"Folder" is shorter (also in French : Dossier)

I'm an old geezer, so I prefer to stick to the term "directory", instead of the office analogies like 'folder' or 'map'.
In the Dutch version the button is labelled 'new map', and I tried to change this to 'new dir' in the file without succeeding.
An argument there was, that people more and more hardly know what a 'directory' is.
My counter-argument is the fact, that in a normal (long view) TC-page many times the string "DIR" shows up. So it's there.
2 Clo - Also in the french version ?

In French---

:) Hello Sam !

• In French, the button is labelled "New folder" (Nouveau dossier) because like I said, the room is limited.
In the dialogue, we have "New directory" (Nouveau répertoire"), that's better IMHO.
I tested as eventual plural, that fits using inactive dashed pipes ¦ #166.
The marker <DIR> here is translated in 7.0 with <RÉP> too… It was an oooooold request…
Here, "Folder" for short in French is inconvenient, since it should be <DOS>, hence totally confusing.
