Missing documentation for keyboard shortcuts

Post by *Hacker »

The documentation for these is missing:
history.txt wrote:18.04.06 Added: If "Select only files" is checked, "*" reverses the selection of just files, while Shift+"*" reverses it for both files+folders
18.04.06 Added: Shift+'-' unselects just specific files
18.04.06 Added: Ctrl+Shift+'-' unselects just all files
Perhaps there are even some more?

TIA
Roman

Above seem to be available both in Help and KEYBOARD.TXT:
KEYBOARD.TXT wrote:NUM * Invert selection
SHIFT+NUM * Like NUM *, but files and folders if NUM * inverts selection of just files (and vice versa)
SHIFT+NUM - Always removes the selection just from files (NUM- from files and folders)
CTRL+SHIFT+NUM - Deselect all (always files, no folders)
Help, Keyboard - Layout wrote:NUM * invert selection (also with shift, see link)

CTRL+SHIFT+NUM -
deselect all (always files, no folders)

Calculates size of all directories
"Calculates size of all directories" is done by Alt+Shift+Enter, which is covered in both Help and KEYBOARD.TXT:
Help, Keyboard - Layout wrote:ALT+SHIFT+ENTER
The contents of all directories in the current directory are counted. The sizes of the directories are then shown in the "full" view instead of the string <DIR>. Abort by holding down ESC key.
KEYBOARD.TXT wrote:ALT+SHIFT+ENTER The contents of all directories in the current directory are counted.
CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER is for different purpose, which is covered in Help:
Help, Command line: keys wrote:CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER The file under the cursor including its path is added to the end of the command line.

Yuta wrote: 2007-06-29, 14:41 UTC"SHIFT"+"ARROW LEFT/RIGHT"
Go to command line
This is also documented in Help using different words:
Help, Command line: keys wrote:Cursor keys Cursor left and cursor right move the cursor through the command line, even if the cursor was in the source directory before. If brief was selected, these keys move the cursor through the source directory. You then have to hold down SHIFT to move it inside the command line.
Cursor up and cursor down move the cursor bar inside the source window, even if it was inside the command line.

Yuta wrote: 2007-06-29, 14:41 UTCF5/F6 again

"F5 again" part is described in Help:
Help, F5: Copy wrote:Press F5 a second time to select just the file name without path. Ctrl+Home places the cursor directly in front of the file name (behind the last "\"). The combobox offers all open tabs and target subdirs for choice.
But F6 again to select just file name and third F5/F6 to select also its extension seem to be missing both in Help and KEYBOARD.TXT.

DrShark,
Thank you!
But F6 again to select just file name and third F5/F6 to select also its extension seem to be missing both in Help and KEYBOARD.TXT.
I confirm this one is still missing.

Information about F6 again and third F5/F6 is added in help of TC 9.51 RC2.

However, now I think it's better to move it from "Select the files you want to <Copy/Rename/Move>" part of text, which in general describes how to copy files in TC, to copy/move dialog descriptions (green is suggested new/changed text):
Suggestion for 'F5: Copy' help page: wrote:Select the files you want to copy and press F5.

[...]

Copy dialog

This opens a dialog box where you can type the target path and a file mask. As a default, the path of the target window is presented together with *.* as the file mask. You can use any type of valid file name including wild cards as your target file name. If you don't specify any target path, the files will be copied to the source directory. Press F5 a second time to select just the file name without path, and third time to select also its extension. Ctrl+Home places the cursor directly in front of the file name (behind the last "\"). The combobox offers all open tabs and target subdirs for choice.

With Use copy+paste via Explorer (only in case of copy problems) option enabled, a simplified Copy dialog is used, with only options to confirm or cancel the operation.
For 'F6: Rename / Move' help page: wrote:Select the files and/or directories you want to rename or move, then press F6.

[...]

Rename / Move dialog

F6 opens a dialog box where you can type the target path and a file mask. Press F6 a second time to select just the file name without path, and third time to select also its extension. As a default, the path of the target window is presented. If you do not specify a target directory, the source directory is assumed, i.e. you rename the files. If you do not specify a file mask, the file name is not changed. Additionally, you can choose the target directory with the directory tree by pressing the tree button. See also copy (F5).

With Use copy+paste via Explorer (only in case of copy problems) option enabled, a simplified Rename / Move dialog is used, with only options to confirm or cancel the operation.

Thanks for implementing suggested changes into the help of TC 9.51 RC3. Now this can be moved to fixed bugs.

I would mention here some shortcuts from recent history.txt:
23.02.20 Fixed: cm_commandbrowser: Shift+Double click or Ctrl+Shift+C on a command/Shift+Click OK no longer worked on Windows 9x/ME (32)
It is really impossible to guess about such shortcuts if you aren't aware of them, especially about Shift+Double click or Shift+Click OK that do copy text to clipboard and close dialog... I think these must be documented at the command browser help page.

Well, at least in help included with TC 9.51 RC4, on Dialog box: Choose command, there's a
Note: A command can be copied to the clipboard with Ctrl+C in the list of commands. Ctrl+Shift+C copies the entire line with the description.
