ALWAYS able to put things in background

At the moment, I'm extracting a whole bunch of rar files. It's taking up my whole TC session, and I'm not able to do anything else with my files. I know somehow I could have gotten to put this in the background.

I don't think it's impossible to ALWAYS have an option to put things in the background. Extractions can sometimes take al ong time, and I shouldn't be prevented from doing other stuff.

In Help, 4.b), look for AlwaysUnpackInBackground.

thank you, but that was just an example. And I'd prefer a prompt. There are other cases where I've gotten stuck in the foreground as well.

Whenever a foreground task is blocking T.C., there is always the option of simply opening a second T.C. instance.

Hey, this is Windows. You can run the same programme more than once. And because of the moderate RAM usage of TC, even my old PIII runs 2 instances without slowing down. :)

If the second instance would open with the currently open tabs from the first instance, I'd almost call it a feature. But since the second instance opens with the tabs TC had last week (when I restarted computer) I can only say: crappy

// here ends my (almost) daily rant.

Hi, roentgen,

if you really think TC is crappy, just switch to a more perfect FileManager.

the whole "if you don't like it, go away" routine is very tiresome as well as pointless. How about discussing and establishing a reasonable solution instead?

Sorry, I had thought that a winking smiley  made pretty clear that a question/statement/piece of advice is meant ironically and not to be taken literally.

My suggestion to launch a second instance of TC whenever a task cannot be sent to the background was meant as a workaround for the time being.

Roentgen pointed out this workaround were not good enough for him. If he really considered TC a piece of crap, I assume he would not bother to use it or visit this forum. So his term "crappy" was not meant too literally. (see the smiley) Same is true for me telling him he always had got the option to switch to a different file manager. (see the smiley)

So I am not trying to turn down your request to allow more long running tasks to be sent to the background in any way.
I am in no position to reject any request anyway, because it is Christian Ghisler who will implement it or not.

alright. fair enough. I'm touchy about that particular reply, because I see it way too much :/

I'll have to switch off the option of only one instances of TC, but that's easy enough :)
