Delete/Move/Overwrite (all) files as Administrator
Hi -
TC 7 offers to move/delete/overwrite files (I'll call all these actions "delete" in this report) as Administrator if it cannot be deleted by the current user. This is very useful.
The delay between trying to delete the file as current (restricted) user and the dialog offering to delete as Administrator is probably caused by Windows, right? So it is inevitable.
Now, if there are many files selected that shall be deleted as Administrator there is an option "all as Administrator". Unfortunately it appears as if TC tries to delete every file as current user first and only deletes as Administrator if that fails. So there's a delay for every file and it takes ages to delete 100 or more files.
I think, "all as Administrator" means just that, so there would only be a delay before deleting the first file.

Clo

• What about :
<wincmd.ini> [Configuration]
AdminTimeout=…
Determines after which duration of inactivity tcmadmin.exe (used for copy¦delete etc. as admin.) is terminated :
• Time value, i.e. 180 (seconds)
• 0 : No timeout.
• –1 : Disables totally the functions “As Administrator”

Hi,
thanks for your answer!
As far as I understand the "AdminTimeout" option, its value is the number of seconds after which you have to reenter the administrator user name and the password. By setting it to '0' you only have to enter the password once per session. It shouldn't be related to deleting files.
Best regards

No, AdminTimeout is not the problem here. TC indeed tries to delete the file normally first, and only if it fails it deletes it as admin (if the user agreed). I wasn't aware that this would be slow, I didn't encounter any slowness with Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. Did you delete with Del/F8 (recycle bin) or with Shift+Del/Shift+F8 (directly)? The recycle bin can be very slow when it is quite full, so it's a good idea to empty it often.

I use XP SP2. The recycle bin is empty.ghisler(Author) wrote:I wasn't aware that this would be slow, I didn't encounter any slowness with Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. If I use Del/F8 (delete to recycle bin) it takes about 3-5 seconds until TC recognizes that it cannot delete the file - for every file! Even when I choose "all as Administrator". I checked on several systems - it's always the same. Explorer has the same delay in this situation, btw.
Deleting directly (by Shift F8 ) does *not* expose this problem, ie it deletes normally.
Edit: I could swear there are other situations where such a delay occurred, but I can't find them. Even when moving files, the box where I could choose "as Administrator" from, appears immediately after copying. So this is handled differently (no recycle bin involved).
Note, that in both cases the Explorer delete method is not selected.

Thanks for trying it! Indeed I'm now trying to delete the file immediately as administrator if the user has chosen "all as admin".
