I offer for columns of content plugins (instead of standard hints) show in hint full contents of a field, if it more column's width.

TC shows the same hint for the entire line if you enable Win32-style hints. Here you can also define custom fields which should be shown within the hint. Unfortunately this conflicts with your suggestion...

Show standard hints for first standard fields.
Show field's content for only long fields (like Download Master in her list).

Or automatically add this info to standard hint.
If cursor in field “Title” and text is long, add this text to hint and show extended hint else show standard hint.

Here you can also define custom fields
OK, I can, but what show Total, if I add Title, Meta Description, Meta Keywords, H1, H2, H3, A, Strong, Em and brocken links?
Total can add define custom fields automatically for only showed fields. Not for filetype.

Have you tried this for mentioned option? It appears that defining hints content works very similar to making colouring schemes definitions. You can have different hints for files according to any property you like (i.e. extension, creation time or even checking meta-info).

I am using custom columns rarely because the most information I'd like to see I have in hints. so I just hover the file and see it (ID3 content for MP3 files, EXIF info for JPG, etc.).

The only thing it might be requested is having the possibility to see the tags using hovering with some kind of key (i.e. SHIFT) for not slowing down navigation process.

I also use hints a lot, but when you want information about several files or unusual (for me it's i.e. owner info) or slow to obtain (TrID signature) ones, columns are more comfortable solution.

Maybe features redesign would be nice idea?
If it conflicts with current solution, hints could show all columns content.
