[Wish] Option to remember dirsize count...

It would be nice if there where an option in TC that you can let it remember the dirsize count results and show them again after entering a subdirectory and going back to the counted directory. Or when you delete empty folders that you don't have to do a recount again to see how big the others where.

Maybe a switch which you can turn on to let it remember the counted values.

Have you tried the DirSizeCalc content plugin: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=150981#150981 :?: It does what you want.

@petermad:

Thanks, i've tested it a bit and I think it does what I need. :-) I don't always need it, but it's easy to switch the view with Shift+F1 :-) Saves some counting.

I support the alm's first request. DirSizeCalc is not very convenient for some tasks, as it re-counts the sizes after every refresh, and this can be a very long and resource-heavy operation with large directories. Very often I control the directories contents by myself and know for sure that they did not change, but just opening some subdirectory and returning back makes me start this useless recounting again and again, either by hand or by DirSizeCalc.

The latest DirSizeCalc beta only rereads directory sizes if the user explicitly refreshes the view. If it behaves different for you it's a bug in TC or DirSizeCalc or you have disabled caching.

I see, thank you for the correction. I remembered this behaviour from version 1.x and thought it remained in 2.x too (I tested it very little yet).

However, possibility of manual control of when sizes should be counted still looks a very attractive idea to me. E.g. I open a directory, press Alt+Shift+Enter to count sizes, then open one of the subdirectories to see what's inside (but where I don't need counting), then return back. If it were possible to keep DirSizeCalc quiet till I explicitly tell him to start counting, it would solve the problem, but AFAIR, it is not implemented in the plugin interface. :(

This behavior has been requested many many times but has not been implemented so far. Search for "idea on demand" in the betaforum and read the related thread.

BTW: It's not something missing in the plugin interface. We need commands to:
- Load all on demand values
- Load selected on demand values
- Stop calculating background values

This would apply to all custom column supporting background loading of values not just to DirSizeCalc.
