directory compare shows differences but file compare not

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

directory compare shows differences but file compare not

Post by *weberno »

Directory compare shows difference between two files.
After double click for comparing these certain files there is no difference.

It seems that directory comparison runs in hex mode as default (do you have any options here?) and single compare runs in text mode as default.

Don't tell me that's a feature :(

Actually I would like to compare two directories in text mode :D

Thanks

Hello!

Check the option Ignore date and try again.

Hello,

Ignore Date was already checked.
Differences in CR LF only.

How can I let ignore CR LF when comparing directories?

Thanks

Sorry, you cannot ignore line break differences at the moment. The problem is that the detection of text files isn't 100% reliable - that's why you can choose it manually in "compare by content". You couldn't do this when comparing many files.

Thanks for clarification.

Do you have an advise for me.
I need to compare tow directory with many subdirectories with a lot of files.
Both directories should be almost identical.
But one was transfered by ftp binary and the other as ascii.
Now I a have differences in every file because of CR LF only and I can't find the really difference.
Actually these files are all text files without binary.

Thanks
Norbert
