Drag & Drop a file or directory name to the commandline

Hi,

i try TC v7.5b8 with the feature to drag & drop a fil or directory name to the command line and i see that there is no progress in the program.

In a few weeks Windows 7 would be delivered and this function always drop the names if they are longer than 8 characters in the very old DOS-SCHEME to the commandline.

Code: Select all

[System Volume Information] <--> [SYSTEM~1]
WHY THAT STILL TODAY ?
I dont understand this

I think normaly nobody needs such an archaic feature.
I hoped that i could change this behavior in the configuation , but i see nothing.

I know the posibility with <ctrl><enter> to copy the long name to the command line, but it is more intuitive to do this with the mouse.

My suggestion to change this, is to add a key (perhaps <ctrl>) with the mouse-movement to restore the old behavior and without any key you copy the long name to the commandline like <ctrl><enter>.

Regards,
Charly

Hi, Charly.

I do agree that the default should be using the long filename.

As a workaround you might press strg-enter on the selected filename or strg-shift-enter and see what happens ...

Kind regards,
Karl

I wanted to give the user both options, drag&drop for the short name, and Ctrl+Enter for the long name. But that was at a time where >50% of the programs couldn't handle names with spaces via command line (because they were DOS programs)...

Wouldn't the key-combo that is used to convert drag&drop Copy to Move work in this context?

LeftClick+Drag to commandline, RightClick before Drop
results in "Long File Name"

A Config option would help as well, although the Config|Operation screen is getting pretty full. It might be worthwile to consider splitting the mouse related options to a Mouse config screen for future proofing:
[ ] Open Files and Directories with single click.
Mouse Selection Mode (NC options)
...
Mouse Command Line Drop Mode
[x] Long File Name (RightClick like Move)
Edit, just one checkbox, if unchecked it would drop LFN without rightclick

Support for Balderstrom's suggestion but maybe long names for standard d'n'd would be better.

Hi.

it is right there was a time when more than 50% of the programs has problems with long names :-)

I think the suggestion from Balderstrom goes in the right direction.

Left click+drag to the commandline --> long file name
left click + drag + right click before drop --> short file name

On this way both behavior was available for the user and the today prefered way would be a little bit easier to use.

Perhaps first for the comming Version 7.5 a direct entry in the wincmd.ini could switch the behavior and perhaps later in a futher version it is possible like Misc.->Redefine Hotkeys new configuration point like
Misc.->Redefine Mouse behavior to customise the mouse.

Kind regards to Switzerland,

Charly
