Handle UnzipOverWriteFiles Consistently

Hello, Christian.

As this recent thread a vital bug in 7.50a and 7.55 ??????? shows - and there have been similar threads based on the same misunderstanding:

Users tend to assume that the option "Get confirmation before OverwriteFiles=1/0", configurable under Configuration => Options => Misc. were valid for unpacking of archives as well.

In fact, however, the Unpack files dialogue box offers a separate [_] Overwrite existing files option. This option has the tendeny of being overlooked by users. In addition it is remembered across sessions. And finally it has no counterpart under Configuration => Options => Misc. => "Get confirmation before".

Therefore I would like to suggest adding a 6th item under Configuration => Options => Misc. => "Get confirmation before": [_] Overwrite existing files when unpacking.

The state of this option would then be the default state for the dialogue box Unpack files.
Changing the option [_] Overwrite existing files would only apply to the current unpacking operation.

Further potential enhancement:
Add another option to the Unpack files box: [_] Remember this setting.
Ticking this new option would
  • bring back the current behaviour, i.e. the state ticked/unticked of the option [_] Overwrite existing files would be remembered across sessions.
  • in addition [x] Remember this setting would make sure that the global setting [_] Overwrite existing files when unpacking gets changed accordingly under Configuration => Options => Misc. => "Get confirmation before".
[_] Remember this setting. will be unticked. You have to tick it explicitly and willing each time.

Kind regards,
Karl

Happy Easter, Claude.

Thanks for your support. Maybe the Swiss Easter bunny will give us this helpful improvement as his Easter surprise egg.

I fully agree on the problem analysis.

On possible solutions: If you think of an archive as a one file directory hierarchy - this metaphor is used in TC - than the question what is the difference between unpacking an archive and copying files comes up. Each difference in handling these operations must be well justified? I don't think this option should be handled differently.

I think such option won't hurt:) there are a lot of place for it in Misc dialog.

I will consider it, but unfortunately it's too late for TC 7.55 because it would require translation.
