Why "Feed to listbox" is dimy when searching archi

Post by *ay222 »

When i searching archives for files, the button "Feed to listbox" doesn't enabled. and this is problem coz i want to "Unpack and execute" many files to find what i need and there are many files type can not seen with lister ("View" button) [ don't say use plug in]
and what do you do if the file is "Exe"?
if you double click in the result file you will goto this file but the search dialog will disappear and you must do a new search again to see another file.

:?: I ask why this button "Feed to listbox" is dimy when searching archives?

It's normal!

:D Hello!
When you check the option "Search in archives...", you can't display the list of results.
So, the button is blurred, it's quite normal.
This is quoted in the Help (and the Tutorial, please check the thread about it in this Forum...) at the Search (General) topic, from the Menu "Commands" Search… entry  Dialog boxes

"Feed to listbox
Transfers the files you found to the source file window, where they can be listed, copied or even deleted. This can only work when archives aren't searched."
 You are right for the principle, it's often very annoying... I suppose that isn't really possible...

yes it is very annoying, specially when working with "exe" in archives. but there is a trick i have just discovered it to execute programs or any file in archives without closing search dialog :o , want to know? Ok here you are
1- after the searching end select any file in the result then click View button.
2- goto your system temp folder (use explorer or another copy of tcmd) and open the folder named (_tc), here you can find any file you opened it with lister (extracted) So you can run it or open it with the associate program.
 don't close lister untill you close the extracted file. to insure the file is deleted from temp dir.
 but here another annoying thing you will faced with a lot of lister windows opened :? but this easyer than closing the search dialog and repeating new search again.

Hi again!
Yes, it's a good trick! Though I use "Search in archive" the most times to find Win$-file(s) in the CABs (I copied the whole install-cabs in a directory, it's handier than the CD...).
 About CABs, TC can't neither create them, nor add / remove file(s) into...
A free program makes that, you have a link in the Tutorial--> "Archive handling" under "What are archives"...

Ok, i download your tutorial and found the link, but i rarly use CAB format for archiving my files.
about your tutorial it is nice and include some information that is not in tcmd help file. but the colorfull text is difficult to read. and there is not search tool in it.
any way it is Good work. keep working. 8)

and i dont mind to add this trick into your tutorial for free
