Assign Hotkeys to TC Functions ?

Post by *MichelPy »

Hello,
is it possible to assign a HotKey (a free one) to TC Functions which haven't one per default :?:

I dream since a long time :cry: of being able to assign a Hotkey to the following functions:
Files -> Compare by Content
Commands -> Synchronize Dirs

I think I've found something and it works now !

The Start Menu is editable (i've never used it in TC since today)
and I've been able to create entries with a Shortcut Key

But the Shortcut Keys choice is not very flexible ... :(

_________transmission_from_TOTALCMD.HLP___________

Configuration - Misc.
[^Y]
Redefine hotkeys (keyboard remapping)
Assign an internal function to unused or already used shortcut keys.

Hotkey: Define a hotkey here.
Command: Assign an internal command to the hotkey. To undefine a hotkey, choose 'Default command (no remapping)'. Warning: It will not be shown whether a hotkey is used internally by Total Commander or not. Reason: Total Commander uses a more efficient system internally for hotkeys.
checkmark Click to define the hotkey

Thanks for your quick answer !
I should have used these forums sooner...
It seems I'm not the only one who tries to live longer by using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse :wink:
But I'm already happy to use TC since years to brighten my day !

Then you can try Alt+F Y for File|Compare by content, and Alt+C Y for Commands|Synchronize Dirs...
(If your TC talks English)
Using Windows without Total Commander is like driving a car without a steering wheel!

Good idea, this would work with the default settings of TC.
But I can't use these shortcuts because I've activated the quick search option with the ALT Key in Configuration -> Operation of TC (as in the good old NC days)

I think I've enough solutions now.
Thanks for your help !

BTW: It would work by tapping Alt (which activates the menu) and then F, Y, for instance. Or pressing F10 or F9 instead of Alt (endless possibilities...).

OK, then you can use: Alt F Y and Alt C Y (releaseing the Alt key before pressing F / C)

Finally, after some time spent these days in the TC Forums, I've found exactly what I needed :D
(I took the time ro read the FAQ section of TC Help including the wincmd.ini content description... :oops:)

I've now put the following in my wincmd.ini :
[shortcuts]
CA+D=cm_FileSync
CA+F=cm_CompareFilesByContent

My shortcuts are not displayed in the TC menu, but IT WORKS :!:
This closes the case for me.

Thanks for all your help. 8)

[shortcuts]
F2=cm_RenameOnly
F3=cm_PackFiles
F4=cm_UnpackFiles

But you can define hotkeys to commands on the Options / Misc. / Redefine hotkeys (Keyboard remapping)
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

EXCELLENT!!!
thank you very much!

now i got control of this program that i use for almost 4 yrs!
i would like to propose to Christian in implement all the free plugins aviable on the official page on the next version, of course mentioning the authors on credit. it will save a lot of time configuring the program.
Excellent work on this program.

That would make TC large and slow and not all the people need all the plugins. Also, some plugins are still in alpha / beta...

"Do you want to install aditional plugins? Y/N"
Y -> choose:

1
2
3
....
is not so hard.
i think only consacrated plugins should instal.
