Long filenames in status bar?

Post by *eru »

I miss one option in TC that e.g. MC has.
When I'm on a file that is so long, that it doesn't fit in the 'Name' column, why not display its name in status bar?
Of course, as an option :)
At this moment I need to switch to 'Brief' mode or use tool tips - both of these options are not perfect.
What do you think?

Have you tried this in wicmd.ini [Configuration]:
LongInStatus=1
Show long name in status bar in mode view-full. (1/0)

:D    Hi!
Add in wincmd.ini:
[General]
LongInStatus=0
Show long name in status bar in mode view-full. (1/0)
¤ You can't have another display in the Status-bar, indeed...
EDIT:
You could too create a comment in wich you put the long name (if really very long)
Then watch in wincmd.ini:
[General]
ToolTipDelay=500 (default = 500)
Delay in milliseconds, until descriptions for the buttons in the button bar are shown
¤ Decrease this value to obtain a faster info-balloon display.

:mrgreen: Kind regards,
>>> djk Still fast! :wink:

merci Clo, dzieki DJK :)
Gee, wincmd.ini! just found help page for that, seems there are some more settings to play with.
LongInStatus is exactly what MC does (filename in normal case, selected number/size when selected) :)
And what a great response time - I'm impressed.
Thanks again.

Something was nagging at me about this subject, and I just found out what it was.. In the Configuration, under Display, in the Help Texts section at the bottom, just select the option to Show Filename in Filelist as Tooltip if Truncated.

This suits my lazy self very well, because now, I don't even have to right click the long name to see it. Just hover the pointer over the filename, and up it appears. :lol:

What a Life, eh? :wink:

Yes, of course. I appoligize for my assumption that all people use a mouse or trackball, or even voice command controls.

Hey, that's an ideal solution. Just install a voice command software, and don't use the mouse OR the keyboard. Just your voice.. :lol:

I can hear it now.... " Computer..... cursor down.... select..... quick view.... (Ect....)

Of course.. I've missed :oops:
BTW: You surely know why I can't use any shortcut with Alt (eg. "Alt"+"I")?
