Thanks

Summary:
  • Christian once programmed a plugin for sqx but there was some trouble with the sqx.dll:
    • If you are packing a file into an existing archive and the file has no path then the paths of all files in the archive are deleted.
So Christian never published the plugin.
Now the new Version of sqx will soon be released and there will be an option in the dll that fixes this behavior. When this happened Christian will programme a plugin for sqx2. ( He didn't say actually that he would do it but that he couldn't begin to write the plugin before that.)

aksdb says it has a very good compression rate (ghisler says its comparable to rar) and a 'super self extractor'.

From http://www.sqx-archiver.org
The SQX archiver is a high performance file archiver. It was developed due to the fact that for most other archivers are only incomplete specifications availabe. It is also prohibited to use some archive formats in your own applications, at least if you want to compress files. Especially if it comes to high comression ratios, strong encryption or extra features like recovery data one is almost lost since there are almost no free libraries available.

It is different for the SQX archiver: You can freely use the provided format specifications, the source code, source samples and precompiled DLL's. There are no license fees to pay.
RAR and ACE are good packers, but the have one big disadvantage -> they are not free.

Hi !

• Certainly!
• Thank you for this info. That could be a nice packer-dll for TC.

Bump after a year and a half. ;)

It seems SQX SDK 2.0 has been released. I've downloaded the SDK, but I haven't seen any changelog, so I don't know if the bug pointed by Ghisler in this post has been fixed.

Anyway, has anyone thought about creating an SQX plugin?

I'm working on a Squeez-Plugin (SQX) for Total Commander. Please be patient a little longer :-)

Thanks for the info, Lefteous!!
Perhaps you should ask Ghisler about the source he wrote one year ago.

I suppose you were working on it before I posted in this thread ;)
That's what I call a coincidence. :D

I'll be patient, I swear it.
