Indicating and making the selection

Selected files or directories are indicated only by the small check mark. I would welcome something more outstanding, e. g. the different color or font style (bold) of the row.
Also it would be nice, if it would be possible to select continuous group of (many) files by selecting the first and then something (as Shift+Click in Windows) on the last.
