Price?

Post by *ReS »

I just checked price and 32 euro is too much.
First of this is old, very old, are you trying to live your life on money from TC?

Second think about it, how many people in this world got 32 euro for a software you can get free from warez sites?

Considering the fact that I bought my license in 1998, i.e. 14 years ago, and updated legally for free ever since and used the product every single day of the year I tend to disagree.

You can even download it free from www.ghisler.com .

Greetings ReS,

Actually if you are a student you get a discount. A Student license costs 24€ which is not that bad. You also get a lifetime license that works with every future versions of Total Commander. Even with older versions that it's newer than 2.11. I'm pretty much sure that if you buy Total Commander and need for versions 2.11 and below, you can request one from the author, just for whatever reason.

Also you are not forced to buy the product, you can download the shareware copy and use it for 30 days to try it out. If you decide that you want you keep using it you can buy it, and by that you support Mr. Ghisler, and you can use every single version in the future.

There are many freeware alternatives for Total Commander, like Double Commander, Free Commander, QDir and others, so I don't see the point of using a pirated copy, from illegal file sharing websites and peer to peer networks. Leaked licenses will eventually one day will get blacklisted, the ones that Mr. Ghisler founds and the ones that other people report it to him. Also using Total Commander with modified executable it's just plain stupid. The software can be used even after the 30 day testing period, the only difference is the pop-up window that urges you to register and the NOT REGISTERED message in the titlebar.

I wouldn't use a cracked product to manage my files, because you can get infected with malware and tojans that mess up you system and steal your personal information like credit card numbers and login informations. Your files could be in danger too, because a cracked product can lead to crashes and data corruption.

So yeah. Just check the prices of some different file managers and you will see that some of them don't even offer lifetime licenses. You have to pay for an upgrade license every time that a major version releases. I would rather have a lifetime license and not pay in the future. You have to buy Total Commander once!

If you are a developer you can also write some plugins for Total Commander. I'm sure if it's useful in some way or another you can get a free registration. Just check the Plugins section of the forum and you will see what I mean.

Just play fair, using pirated software is against the law, you can get in trouble if you are caught. I'm pretty much sure that many others will agree with me, just use Total Commander unregistered if you can't afford it, and maybe one day you will change your mind and support the work of the developer.

Quite frankly, dear ReS, you're an idiot. :) And I'm not saying that because I want to be rude, it's a friendly hint to think about it a little more. Although I'm not sure if you deserve it, because your "free from warez sites" argument is simply stupid. It would be diffent if your argument was e.g. "in my country I can have food for year for that money".

Yes, the author lives from TC, as far as I know. For years he single-handedly improves great software used by at least hundereds of thousands paying users all over the world (and millions of non-paying ones). And the licence he offers you is about as fair as it can get. No idiotic copy protection (except for little "psychological warfare" with NOT REGISTERED in the app's title), no time or device limits (use your one licence at ten computers if you got them) and on top of that free upgrades (not promised to be always free, but so far all of them were). If this man does not deserve fair reward, then I don't know who does.

Quite frankly your not only "an idiot" like Sob put it but the worth
part that humankind has to offer :!:

If you dont wanna pay for TC dont and leave this site forever please :!:

People that use this forum and have payed for it see the value TC has to offer wich you obviously dont :!:

You say 32€ for a Software you buy once and can update for free for the rest of Chris life is to much?
Well lets have a look at compitions:
- Speedcommander cost 39.95€ to buy once and you have to pay for EACH update
- DirectoryOpus cost 69,95€ at least - and gues what - you have to PAY for EACH update...

So im using TC now for over 10 years wich brings it costs down to less then 3€ per YEAR...

so STFU and get outta here please. TIA :D

PS: yes in RL I would punch you :D
Hoecker sie sind raus!

You can get it for free from warez site. That includes a crack for the program as there is still no "standalone-key-gen" (key-gen which works without crack) after so many years. Who knows which "adoditional software" aka malware comes with the crack?
Fortunately there are a few people who want to go the save way and don't want to go visit such siites (which is a risk for itself).

Maybe the mods want to make this thread as "sticky" or save it on the purchase-side for all new users who have the same questions/ideas like ReS?

And don't forget that TC was cheaper back then - I paid SFr. 30. back in 1994 - that is closer to 1€ a year.

ghisler(Author) wrote:Yes, TC is also quite weakly protected. However, the fact that there are no keygens are a big plus:
- Many people fear to use cracks because they could include a backdoor or install a virus
- Companies usually don't allow cracked software

Remember that your goal isn't to minimize unregistered users - your goal should be to maximize registered users! That's the reason why TC doesn't stop working after 30 days like many other shareware tools do. If it did, people would simply delete it and install some other software...

ghisler(Author) wrote:In fact there is no donation scheme. Believe me, we (my brother and I = C. Ghisler & Co.) earn enough with new registrations so we don't need to charge for updates.

What if you cannot afford the TC licence? We tolerate the use of the unregistered version by private users who cannot afford the program. However, we expect that companies who make real money buy the software when they use it, and also private users who can afford it (where the licence wouldn't take a big part of the salary, as in some countries of eastern Europe or Asia now). This isn't yet written in the licence in the program, but will be written there in the near future.

For me, TC is such a time saver and desktop replacement for the last 12 years, i have no problem to pay 500 euro for every major release.

I wouldn't pay 500€ of course, but i agree to your point. I just love TC.

I'm sure i would pay the register-fee again, to keep development ongoing...

With 32 Euro, TC is a bit more expensive, but with some benefits which you don't get with most other programs:
- all future upgrades are free. We will never charge for them except if we are forced to (e.g. because of patent licensing).
- you are allowed to use TC with just one licence on an unlimited number of computers, even at the same time.
- licences are needed only for the number of users at the same time. Usage by one user on multiple computers counts as just one licence.
