[7.57a] folder order is not updated after file inside change

Post by *Michael REMY »

hi !

i'm under windows 7 x64 corporate french.
i use total commander 7.57a and i use nfts system, on local disk (not network share).

Here my prob (or misunderstood legacy) :

1 - i have a list of folders
2 - i order it by last modified to newer modified one by double-click on the date column, so in head i have the one which have the oldest change, and in the bottom, the one which have the newest change
3 - i go into the oldest (the top on my folder list), i change a file inside and save. The date file is righly updated as it must be.
4 - i come back to my list by double click on [..]
5 - and here the bug, : the list of folders is not updated ! as i modify a file into the oldest folder, then the oldest folder must be placed at the bottom isn't it ?

so , bug or not ? am i wrong or not ?

Ntfs updates the folder date only if you add, remove or rename files and not if you change the content or other attributes of the file.
At least not a bug of TC.

is there any tweak or change in TC to get the order on last modified file inside the folder ?
maybe TC can add another 'real date' column based on this information !
that would be a improvement on and over Windows !

You may
- use an editor which creates bak files.
- use a tool to set the folder date to the newest file date: SetFolderDate 1.5
- create a custom column which shows the date of the newest file inside the folder: Script Content Plugin 0.2.0.0 / FolderDates.vbs

The last solution may hang TC for a while if you sort folders with a huge number of files.
