Good to hear that, petermad. I'm finding that TotalUpdater fails sporadically for no discernible reason on my WIN8.1 system. But flushing the cache and pinging seems to reset something that gets it working again without removing the redirection. I haven't attempted the reboot yet as it's inconvenient at this time.

Btw, thanks for your excellent extended menus - I find them quite invaluable.

Hello!
There is a patched version of TotalUpdater.exe:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/czlr9i
It uses request "totalcmd.net", not "www.totalcmd.net", because of 301 server respond code.

The DNS flush only worked for a day - so thank you to corporator for the patch - that worked fine for me.

Hi,

I cannot confirm that the patched version works better. On two different systems running in different networks with different internet providers, I still have the error. (Ok, I know that this is not a large testing pool.)

Must the DNS still be flushed when using the patched version?

I had to flush today (after one day with the patch), but I only flushed, no ping and no reboot was necessasary.

It's quite logical that the patched EXE doesn't work any better since totalcmd.net and www.totalcmd.net both resolve to both IP addresses, and they have the same priority. Just look up the DNS names in CMD (nslookup) more than once and you'll notice that sometimes one IP address is listed first, sometimes the other address.

As I already said: there's nothing any of us users can do (except said workarounds) since the route to the IP addresses is the issue.

There is a difference in server responce to HTTP requests.
I've received responce "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" when used

Code: Select all

GET /get_plugins_list.php HTTP/1.1
Host: www.totalcmd.net
And replacing host with totalcmd.net (without "www" prefix) solved the problem.[/quote]

Apparently it didn't since there're several people who still need to flush the DNS cache.

And it doesn't really matter if there's some HTTP redirect or not. The names resolve to both IP addresses and it depends on the DNS of the local system if it resolves to the IP that can be accessed. Removing the prefix might increase the chances for success, but only if the IP isn't already in the DNS cache.

ps It doesn't work on win10 for me, using ipconfig /flushcache.
Started to work only after I added static address to dnsmaq on router.

Code: Select all

address=/totalcmd.net/109.237.110.23

I had to add this:

Code: Select all

109.237.110.23 totalcmd.net
to the host (c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) file and flush dns: command prompt:

Code: Select all

ipconfig /flushdns
then it worked for me.

Hi,

For the last few days I have a problem with that program. A message appears:
Error: No internet connection / invalid proxy settings.
I do not use a proxy. Program and windows setup are no changes.
I use latest version of Total Updater 0.8.6.9 and Windows 7 x64

Below a configuration file fragment

Code: Select all

[Configuration]
ProxyEnabled=False
ProxyAddress=
ProxyPort=
ProxyUsername=
ProxyPassword=
Do you also have a similar problem?
Is there any way to resolve this issue?
regards

See previous post. Works for me; seems to be the most stable solution for the time being. Note, that this will stop working if the server is moved to another location.

If you want to know more about this problem, browse through the last three pages.
