Save/Restore Synchronize directories settings

Post by *TLis »

When we are using the Synchronize directories tool to backup or synchronize the given two folders, there is a fair chance, that we will do it again for exactly the same folders and with the same settings.

It would be great, if TC offerred a way to save currently selected settings (left/right folders, file mask filter, options) under a user-defined name for later retrieval.

For example, we might have ANY folders selected in both panes, then we invoke the Synchronize directories tool and load the settings, being able to re-execute quickly previously saved synchronization task. Of course, loading the left/right folders from the saved settings should not affect the folders displayed in the left or right TC pane upon returning from the Synchronize directories tool.

Hi TLis,

Seems that this feature is already present. When in Synchronize Dirs tool, use F2. This gives you the possibility to load a previously saved set of folders including sync settings or save the current set. You can even run an often used sync command from TC button bar by adding a button with command %COMMANDER_PATH%\totalcmd.exe /S=S:=BackuptoP where the latest string is the name of your saved sync set.

Funny! What a well hidden feature :) I have never discovered it despite using TC since quite many years :-)

Actually you can click on the folder icon in the upper left corner to save/load settings in the sync tool.

It saves only left and right dirs, but does not save what selected in sync list.

If some folders are selected in TC panes, then we have ability to save them, but when we load that settings, we don't know, what folders are selected in loaded settings.

for sync list: if I want to exclude some dirs from syncronization, and save that setting, and when I load, these dirs should be unchecked. And they can be located not on first level of depth.

we don't know, what folders are selected in loaded settings.
If you named the saved setting for example myTest, then a list of selected files and dirs is saved, and it can be found in a file with the default name of myTest_List.txt
if I want to exclude some dirs from syncronization, and save that setting, and when I load, these dirs should be unchecked. And they can be located not on first level of depth.
If you want to leave out specific dirs, then you should exclude them by entering them behind a | in the file type field in the top middle (between the two directory fields). If you for example want to exclude any folder named myDir enter this in the field: *.* | myDir\

If you want to only exclude myDir in the top level you enter this in the field: *.* | \myDir\

If you want a lover level of myDir to be excluded then use: *.* | dir1\dir2\dir3\myDir\

If you want several dirs excluded separate with a space: *.* | myDir1\ myDir2\

The setting of this field is saved when you save a Sync.

Notice that there are 3 options as to what you want to save:
"Save paths"
"Save sync options (Asymmetric, Subdirs, etc.)"
"Save display options (->, <-, dupes, etc.)"
