double dialog windows when deleting and block sometime

Post by *Michael REMY »

hi !

3 weeks ago, i update from t7.x to t8.01.
i discover a strange bug.

when i delete something from total commander, just by selecting and press delete button (or delete by keyboard touch), there are 2 dialog windows which are displaying.

the confirmation one, and a quantity-jauge one.
there is a jauge one even when i select one file and not only a folder or many file (which is another problem but not important).

sometime, i can't delete because the system told me that my file is block by another process (tc) whereas i delete it from tc ! it happens often with file deleting, less cases in folder deleting.

i have to say that is not due to my system performance because it's huge quick (i7-975 and ssd).

whatever, this strange behaviour did not happen in TC 7.x release.

i tried to record a video to show it, but only the double dialog happen this morning, not the forbddien deleting.
here the video link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6WZpZYbjBw

i hope it can help.

best regards

Mike

ps:i'm an old long user of TC since the win 3.1 release !, for the history, i came to tc when i migrate from amiga commodore where there is diskmanager and directory opus there (which was the ancester of total commander)

I presume you are using Vista or something never. In that case TC enables a new delete function that can be significantly faster and less memory consuming than the old one. But in some cases it can cause all those problems in your post. If you want to restore the behavior of TC 7.x, add 'VistaDelete=0' to 'Configuration' section of your wincmd.ini.

BTW, I don't know how often the 'blocked file' incidents happen to you (rarely in my case), but when they do, you can successfully finish the delete operation by pressing 'Retry'.

Sorry for a typo, but Windows 7 is 'Vista or something newer'. That means, that VistaDelete is enabled by default and wincmd.ini usually contains only overrides of default settings. And since you did not override it, it is not there. In TC 7.x it was disabled by default, in TC 8.x it's enabled by default. So if you want it disabled, you have to override it.

Also, there is a small mix up with delete functions in TC. There are three of them:
1. internal
2. Win95 (configurable through Win95Delete= or through the checkbox you mentioned)
3. Vista (the newest and configurable only through VistaDelete=)

problem

Post by *Michael REMY »

i !

i don't manage to get me out of this problem.

i tried every possibility and my files always stay locked by TC! i have to use unlock to free it !
when i press delete under TC, i just want it to go in trash and when i press shift+delete, i want it to be delete fully. That was the behaviour under tc7.

why can't it be so under tc8 ?

thanks for help.

This is definitely NOT normal. It's possible that a Windows icon extract or overlay extension is blocking the files. Try to turn off EXE/LNK icons and overlays in configuration - options - icons to find out whether this is the reason or not.

hi,

i don't know why but it only appears on video file, not other kind of file !

is there any new feature with TC8 on video files that was't present in TC7 ?

Each video file listed in TC, can only be delete with unlocker tool.

very strange !

what is even more strange, is that TC allow me to rename it or move it ! but not delete it !

AFAIK, the only relevant difference between TC7 and TC8 should be the enabled VistaDelete. And why would it hang? Maybe there is a faulty shell extension or thumbnail provider - they are used to show some extended info in the delete dialog.

it only appears on video file
So it must be a shell extensions loading the icons for these video files. Have you tried my suggestion to turn off icons, just to check whether this is the reason or not?

It could be an wdx plugins, that accesses the file for gathering information and take too much time with large video files.
could you please test it without any plugins?

Please try my suggestion. It has nothing to do with plugins.
