Newly created files temporarily show up in the current panel

Post by *Dzondu »

Using the 64 bit 8.01 build on Windows 7 SP1, when running installations of other programs from TC, the new files and folders they create show up in the active TC panel.

I can't interact with them, double clicking has no effect, and they dissapear quickly. They show up even if i change directory during installation (the ones created afterwards, that is).

Not confirmed. What programs cause this?

Wasn't there some similar thread about "ghost" files appearing in TC and then disappearing again shortly thereafter?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Yes there was, for example this thread:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=36100

But unfortunately I could never reproduce it. That's why I'm asking for more information. I have installed Dropbox and put some files in it on another computer, so they get downloaded on my main PC. There are no temp files showing up, but the files appear just fine in the special Dropbox folder.

So if anyone finds a _reliable_ way to reproduce this error, then please let me know! Maybe it only happens with very special settings?

I cannot fix it if I cannot reproduce it. :(

Just random .exe and .msi installers. Notepad++, TortoiseHG, etc.

Would an export of my settings file help?

Maybe - please send me your wincmd.ini file to support at ghisler dot com. You can find the location via menu Help - About Total Commander.

I didn't get any response, so I wanted to check if you received the email and/or had any luck with reproduction, or if a spam filter maybe ate the message?

Yes, I have received it, thanks! But I'm not sure what exactly I need to do in what order to reproduce the problem...

Just running any kind of process that spawns new files in the backgroud.

The easiest way is start an installation package that would run for a while, and switch focus back to TC.

Now, I have to mention, when I first reported the bug, it reproduced literally every time. As I write this posto, though, I can't seem to get the behaviour to exibit itself again no matter what I try.

Very strange - please let me know if you find out what triggers it. Maybe it only happens after starting some other system monitoring tool...
