I use symbol link to create directory alias:
D:\>mklink /d bar foo\bar
So D:\bar is linked to D:\foo\bar
Then place a readme.exe under D:\foo\bar. So D:\bar\readme.exe is linked to D:\foo\bar\readme.exe.
I can run D:\bar\readme.exe from File Explorer, but when I run D:\bar\readme.exe from Total Commander, it reports:
---------------------------
Total Commander
---------------------------
Can't find file!
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
I use procemon from Windows Internals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx) to monitor the process, and it reports an unexpected path access:
10:25:20.1452267 TOTALCMD.EXE 7104 QueryOpen D:\foo\bar\foo\bar\readme.exe PATH NOT FOUND
D:\foo\bar\foo\bar\readme.exe ?
Error resolving symbol link path

It's a known problem which is fixed in TC 8.5 beta.
