-DDE Error with PDF files

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-DDE Error with PDF files

Post by *zappozeppo »

Hi,
I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro x64 in desktop mode.
If I double click a PDF file from Explorer it opens with Acrobat Reader XI without problems.
Within TC 8.5 final x64 it does not open.
Sometimes it shows a DDE error window and after error, processes are showing 2 istances of Adobe Reader 32 (acrord32.exe).
Killing them does not solve.

This can happen when Acrobat is already running with normal user rights, but Total Commander was started with higher user rights. DDE uses Windows messages in BOTH directions, but Windows forbids messages from lower to higher user levels.

Hi Christian,
What you say is true, but TC was opening PDF's without problems up to Yesterday; I use TC with Adminisrtrator rights ON permanently setted by properties.
And ithe error comes up with all adobe processes killed.

I think that THIS ISSUE IS NOT directly RELATED to TC.

In fact I SOLVED modifying Acrobat Reader settings to open PDF NOT in Protected mode.

How to disable Protected Mode:
Open Acrobat Reader
Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced Protection
Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at startup".

It seems to be a very common issue with Acrobat products starting from version 9 ....

TC 8.5 is a wonderful tool !!! (as previous versions, of course)
Have a nice weekend

Protected mode is similar to elevated (as admin) mode, but in the opposite direction: The program has LESS user rights. But this also means that it cannot communicate via DDE with normal or elevated processes...
