Links still dead.

Webpage: https://www.ghisler.com/efaqpack.htm (Lister plugins)
Q: Where can I find the external packers supported by Total Commander, for the formats ARJ, LHA, RAR, ACE and UC2?
A: You can find the links to these programs on our add-ons page.
ACE and UC2 are discontinued and are no longer on your add-ons page. So these should be removed from the text.
Q: Where can I find Zip-NT by Info-Zip to pack files with long filenames?
A: You can find Zip-NT at the following WWW address: http://infozip.sourceforge.net/
Unfortunately this version does NOT support high ASCII characters like German "Umlauts" and French or Scandinavian accents! You should use the internal ZIP packer which supports all this! You should only use ZIP-NT if you need special command line switches like zip file comments, freshen, or update.

Q: I have downloaded ZIP-NT 2.01, but it just doesn't work!
A: First, you need to copy Zip-NT (only the EXE) to a directory with a short name, e.g. c:\zip.
Then, choose Configuration - Packers and click on the >>button behind the Zip packer field.
Now switch to the Zip-NT directory and select Zip-NT. You can then click on 'Use Zip-NT' Total Commander will patch ZIP-NT.

Q: I have installed ZIP-NT, but when I use it, Windows 95 tells me that it wants to start in DOS-only mode!
A: In Total Commander, switch to the root of drive c: and press ALT+ENTER on command.com.
This brings up the property sheet of command.com. Click on the 'Program' tab, then on 'Advanced'.
There are 3 square checkboxes: Only the middle of the three must be selected! It reads 'Suggest MS-DOS mode as necessary'.

Q: Zip-NT cannot find any files to pack!
A: This happens if there is a PIF file which contains a startup path. ZIP-NT will always start in that path and therefore will not find any files to pack!
To correct this problem, you must modify either dosprmpt.pif, command.pif or 4dos.pif, whichever is present in your Windows directory.
In Windows 3.1 and NT you must use pifedit.exe to modify them. In Windows 95 you can press ALT+ENTER on the PIF files or on command.com/4dos.com directly.
These frequently asked questions (about ZIP-NT) should be removed. They are so far outdated that they are not relevant anymore in any way.

OK, I have removed the bad links, and put the imgview plugin on plugins.ghisler.com

Done. I have also added a link to 7-Zip.

I have reduced the ZIP-NT questions to just one. People may still want to use it as an external packer.

The changes are now online, please let me know if I missed anything.

Maybe it's time to update to Windows 11? And maybe show off the dark mode.

I like the XP look. :)

Seriously, I'm short on time. If anyone wants to do this (for pay), please make an offer. The screenshots should roughly show similar screens as the current ones. Please note that I can't currently send any money to Belarus and Russia.

I would do it for free; however, there's no license info in the current screenshots, while there's no [official] way to achieve that (without a graphic editor, which I'm not fascinated to use in case of what is meant to represent an authentic view of the application).

And also, if the modern images were made, I'd prefer the historic ones not be removed, but rather they coexist; the history, you know.

Other than updating screenshots, as well as contributing to website improvements, translations, or similar tasks, you may share out, I believe many people are willing to offer support, as we all genuinely appreciate TC.

Please don't modify the original screenshots. Just resize Total Commander to a similar size (770x530), use Configuration - Save position so all have the same size, create some sample directories and take screenshots. I suggest that you take 1 or two sample screenshots and post the results here for input from other users.

2ghisler(Author)
That's what I wanted to know but was afraid to ask. Thanks.

I will probably start with 800x560, which is maximally close to 770x530 and nicely divisible by 8 and 16.

Code: Select all

770x530 >> 800x560
770/530 = 1.4528
800*530/770 = 550.6493
800/560 = 1.4285
800/16 = 50
560/16 = 35
My Windows 11 laptop has WQXGA 2560x1600 display with the default 150% scaling.
However, apparently, I will need to switch it to 100%, because 150% and even 125% are not that user-friendly within the size limits :)
Ideally, I'd like to replicate the full 12-piece set of the original images from https://www.ghisler.com/screenshots/en/, with the contents as close to the original as possible, in both Normal and Dark modes, so at least 24 images.
It's not a big deal to make the screenshots themselves, while arranging the proper working environment may become a bit time-consuming.
And I'm not going to hurry up, so if everything goes well, we will see the results around the next weekend.

At the time, we used 770 instead of 800 width so it would fully fit on an 800x600 screen. These days almost no one uses such a small screen.

However, according to Google, Windows 11 requires a display greater than 9 inches with 1280 x 720 pixels or more. That would be 142 dpi, or 150% (actually 142/96) scale. 1280/1.5 = 800. Therefore it would be beneficial to keep the width a bit below 800 pixels.
My Windows 11 laptop has WQXGA 2560x1600 display with the default 150% scaling.
That would make screenshots difficult. You should take them at 100% scale and then leave the scaling to the browser.
