Escape after direct editing path

Post by *SanskritFritz »

TC 6.03a:
A little problem occurs, when I single click on the path above the file list. The path becomes editable, so far so good, but when I press Esc, the cursor disappears! It appears again when I press tab, or Esc again. Strange... anyone can confirm this?
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

No if you mean that after pressing ESC the second time the path is edible again. Otherwise yes.

<Changed the text to avoid confusion. Original text: No. Maybe another program takes over when you hit Esc.>

Hmm, I dont think so. For me it looks like the keyboard focus stays on the invisible edit field.
I'm using XP Pro SP1

Thanks. I installed the previous version of TC (6.03), same behaviour. But I am pretty sure, that previous versions did not have that problem.

Tried it with 5.51, which gives other behaviour. The selected directory is shown again after esc.

I am using Win98. When I single click on the path above the file list. The path becomes editable. When I press Esc, the cursor disappears. When I press tab, or Esc again, the cursor appears in the file window.

Looks like a bug. Something is getting focus while it should not.

It is a known problem, but unfortunately there is currently no workaround. You have to press ESC twice to go back to the list window.

The problem was that on WinXP, setting the cursor directly to the listbox caused strange inexplicable crashes in Windows...

So then how does the focus come back on the listbox at the second Esc???
Strange, it didnt happen to me before i am pretty sure, because i always used this feature to copy the path to the clipboard... i'm sure it would have been annoying.

Didiyou try to restart your PC? Sounds to me like trouble with the keyboard -controller. I cannot confirm the comeback of the focus by ESC twice.

You mean, the focus isnt even coming back after pressing Esc twice??? ;-)
Anyway the problem is still there after a few restarts and tweaks. And according to corny, and I also remember it this way, the problem was not present in pre 6.0 versions.

I tried TC5.51 too and the results are different. In TC5.51 a single Esc brings the cursor in the file window. Same as corny (who uses XP Pro). I wonder if the problem is related to the Folder Tabs (introduced in TC6.0).

Now I see, I got you completely wrong. I thought that after pressing ESC the second time the path is edible again

So now I understand what you mean and can confirm:

With Totalcmd 5.51, 6.00 and 6.01 you can switch the focus from 'edible path' to filepane with one ESC click. With TC 6.02, 6.03 and 6.03a you have to press ESC twice.

Wow, that is called testing! And we can safely say based on previous comments, that it is OS independent.
Actually the problem is only a little annoyance, but who know were it leads in the future ;-)

When the cursor disappeared and then using the arrow keys, then it causes the drive combobox (if visible) to change the current selection without actually changing the drive... ;)
