for a long time i was very happy with TCs parallel link facility,
updating my two laptops and one desktop, moving files back
and forth.

this worked perfectly but for the speed. but with a good book ...

now files are getting larger and larger, and speed became a
different issue: the latest add-on HDD is 160GB, and moving
things back and forth via the parallel link is getting to be a pain.

i have five ways to connect the two laptops (and occasionally
the desktop) together:

1 -- the old proven parallel link
2 -- manually moving a USBstick between them
3 -- a PClinq USB cable with its own (poor) interface
4 -- a (much more expensive) USB NETlinq cable
5 -- two bluetooth dongles on both machines

question is, how could i get TC to work on 4 and 5? option 3 is
with a proprietary format which i think is not open to others,
and 4 and 5 i have never tried, having no experience with any
network setups at all.

anybody out there has tried this, and could help me a long with
a bit of a step-by-step setup? or point me the right way?

hey you two power and senior members: sure i had done this,
but the answers were just too mixed up and confusing, and seem
to imply one knows about networks beforehand. so i thought
somebody could summarize and extend this a bit, and get me
(and many others) going.

without taking too much of yr time. but if not: could you maybe point
me into the right direction, some board or forum or info page where i
could get the startup info i need?

what i sure did not have in mind was to bother anybody.

¤ As far as I remember:
• An USB-Netlink cable connection is not managed by TC.
• "Blutooth" is not managed.
* Normally, you might have classic network cards in your laptops, maybe embedded on the main board (built-in). You can know this looking at the "Device Manager"of Windows.
* So, you could use a simple crossed-pin cable to use the Network Neighbourhood between two laptops, or a laptop and your desktop PC. None "Switch" or "Hub" box is required in that case (2 PCs only).
* The transfer-speed is much better than the // port one, something like 1.2... MB / second with ordinary cards at 10Mbauds.
* Please, check this and let's know what you found for the continuation…

I meant what I said to Claude - I think it' s a nice sort of saying 'please use the search' - because some other members do it much more rude.

Sorry I cannot help you anyway because I do nor have bluetooth neither a USB - COnect cable.

What I didn't have in mind to let you think I'm bothered by your posting.

BTW: I think you can establish a network connect with your bluetooth card, but I do not exactly know how to do it. Try XP Network-Assitstent.

thanks a lot, that should really get me somewhere (forward ...).

only one of the laptops has a network port, but i still have several
PCMCIA cards around, so the older one with W98se could also be
made part of a 2-computer-network. and after the crossed cable,
i will challenge bluetooth ...

An USB cable simulating a local area network is also a solution. You can use Network Neighborhood with them and map drives just like with any other network. Just make sure that both PCs have the same workgroup, but different computer names set. Also the IP addresses need to be different, but in the same subnet, e.g. 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2.

I'm sorry. How kind is a person, who ignores the forum rules? Using search function before posting is forum rule no. 1.

That's not the same thing! You can be a criminal and know all the forum rules by heart.

Even this post and yours are against the forum rules since they don't follow rules number 3, 11 in a way and almost nobody follows rules 8 and 9.
