Please consider separating the filename and extension into two edit boxes in the File Rename dialog.

Since I rarely modify the extension part, but frequently change the filename part, and since Android keyboards are so crippled for text navigation and short cut key combinations, having two fields (with the filename part highlighted by default when the dialog opens) would be a big help.

That's indeed an interesting idea. Maybe preselecting just the name part would already help.
