Send a folder with Bluetooth

Post by *jj42 »

Hi,

I tried to send a folder over a Bluetooth connection. The option is there on the long-press menu, but the transfer does not work. I get an error like "Can't open the file for transfer".

I know that I can select all the files in the folder and then send them that way, but maybe it could be done quicker the other way round?
Or does the Bluetooth standard only allow files to be sent, and not folders?

Sorry, you cannot send folders via Bluetooth (e.g. by using relative paths) - I have tried it, and it doesn't work with the recipients I tried.

I recommend that you pack the folder with ZIP, and then send the ZIP as a whole.

Or if the folder is large, use "via Wifi" instead - it is MUCH faster than bluetooth, and works with any Web browser as the target - you can download the entire folder as a zip, or file by file. You can also use Total Commander for Android (Wifi plugin), Windows (WebDAV beta plugin), or Windows phone (beta version) to receive the files.

Thank you for the info.
Is "Wi-Fi Direct" the same as "via WiFi"?
I want to send files from an Android Phone (with TC of course) to another phone, without a WiFi present.

No, Wifi direct is the direct connection between two devices without a wifi network. My plugin supports 3 methods:
1. via Wifi hotspot
2. Wifi direct
3. The sender can create a temporary local hotspot, to which the receipient can connect.

For the methods 2 and 3, You need my wifi plugin also on the receipient phone. It also works with Windows Phone and Windows with WebDAV plugin.

Can we have a link to this Dav or WiFi thing?
Is the plugin safe to install?
